Irem set to remove games from the PlayStation Store

The folks responsible for bringing the R-Type series to the PlayStation community have announced that they are removing all of their contents from the PlayStation Store starting next month for unknown reasons.

As reported by Andriasang, the troubled publisher revealed that starting on August 11, "all demos, download content, videos and custom themes relating to Irem will be removed from the Japanese PlayStation Store. This will include:

  • R-Type Tactics (PSP)
  • Mousukesu based on Carton-kun (PSP)
  • Bumpy Trott Beagle Battle Tournament (PSP)
  • Ikuze! Gensan Yuyake Daikou Monogatari (PSP)
  • R-Type Tactics II Operation Bitter Chocolate (PSP)
  • Sengoku Esatsu Yugi Hototogisu Ran (PSP)
  • Sengoku Esatsu Yugi Hototogisu Dairan (PSP)
  • Narisokonai Eiyuutan: Story of the Sun and Moon (PSP)
  • R-Types (Game Archives)
  • R-Type Delta (Game Archives)
  • Gussun Paradise (Game Archives)
  • rem Arcade Classics (Game Archives)


In addition, some of Irem's lounges and contents from the PlayStation Store will also vanish the same day. It is still unclear what's the reason behind the sudden move and the effect it will have here in the West. Earlier this year, Irem also decided to cancel its upcoming PS3-exclusive title, Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories and halted production of its disaster-themedseries following the big earthquake that hit Japan.

Oh the irony. Do YOU know what R-Type is, fool? They are great games and we don't see enough of the 'shmup' genre these days. I wish I could get these somehow before they're removed but I think I have a couple of these games on my older consoles.
