id Software: Doom 4 Not Postponed |

id Software hot on the heels of the release of Rage have issued a statement regarding the making of a new Doom game after some reports were released saying that id would never go back to the well to draw some of that good old black and brown water from the Doom series...which they clearly splashed around in for Rage.
Zenimax and Bethesda reportedly said that after the underwhelming reviews (but high sales) of Rage, they were not confident in giving Carmack another chance and “indefinitely postponed” the Doom project. Personally after the way id software handled Diakatana, years ago and the marketing for Rage (see how many times you count them using Doom 3 or Quake 4 in their work), I wouldn't let them do anything...probably why they were bought up.
Peter Hines (you remember, him?), however tweeted out the other day that, the postponing was, and I do quote in a British accent, “complete bollocks”. He then followed up in a Duke Nukem Forever sort of fashion saying, "Re: Doom 4 rumor, games are done when they are done and no title under development at id has been postponed - indefinitely or otherwise," so yeah, that's how that played out.
I mean Rage (unless you got it on PC) wasn't that bad and Doom 3 was mostly forgettable, but do we really need Doom 4. What will it bring to the table? What do you think id software would actually explore? Any backstories or loose ends or tales to tell or secret areas that we missed in the original doom series? Because you know, if we let them have Doom 4, it'll be the beginning of a new trilogy, much like the Final Destination films.

You should save this stupid BS for your POV article. If you did an ounce of research before you started typing you would know that id didn't make Daikitana. IonStorm and John Romero who used to work for id made it. They used the Quake 2 engine. That is about all id had to do with the game other than some engine support.
Also, if you didn't have water on the brain you'd know that id has made some of the most popular PC shooters EVER. PERIOD. Why the hell would you ever shelve one of their products when they practically print money?
Lastly, when someone creates something that is considered great, people tend to bring it up from time to time. Just look at any Miyamato interview and just check and see if Mario or Zelda or any other of his creations are constantly brought up in the interview.
Damnit boy! Think!

That being said, sure they make games but it's their legacy which will live on. True.

Now currently we don't see id's engines being used so much. They don't seem to be as inspired as they used to be. Carmack is off making rockets.
The Unreal 3 engine and other engines have taken the spotlight. Still, I would not be surprised if we see a few games pop up using the id Tech 5 engine.
Id might be a fading star but they still draw a crowd.

Maybe I'll finally get in on the franchise now.

2) I can't believe you'd say no to another Doom. You're willing to let an age-old classic die because of one bad iteration?
