Howard Stringer talks why Sony is getting hacktacked |

Speaking at the company's shareholders' meeting earlier, he said, "We believe that we first became the subject of attack because we tried to protect our IP, our content, in this case videogames. These are our corporate assets, and there are those who don't want us to protect them, they want everything to be free."
Despite massive calls for resignation from irate fans all over, he continues to keep his feet firm where it is. Last month, Stringer also spoke out about the PSN breach, defending Sony against allegations of poor security. Just a few weeks prior to that, he also sent out an open leter to the public apologizing for the same.

Still, I think there's a lesson here for Sony. Everybody who deals in IPs tries to prevent piracy, but there's a limit to how far you should go. Once you have to start stepping on your customers' toes, it's time to just suck it up and deal with the piracy just like everybody else does. MS and Nintendo don't uninstall features that were included with the purchase price from their consoles. It's not like the piracy was all that bad: blu-ray burners and discs are still pretty expensive and ps3 games are so big that you can only fit a handful on a stock hdd so that means the piracy would be much more limited that it's been on the psp. No, this was about Sony's pride. Their console was supposed to be unhackable and when it turned out to be hackable, they couldn't deal.
I'm happy with how Sony has handled the psn hacking (I know everybody was complaining about how long it was down, but they needed to be sure it was as secure as possible so I don't mind that) and I thought their welcome back package was pretty generous, but it's not enough that I would ever be willing to do business with them again after all the crap they've pulled. No ps4 or vita for me. Hopefully other companies see their behavior as an example of what not to do.

It kind of reminds me of the TSA.

I just can't get on board with these hackers - too bad, you gotta buy the game now... what did they expect when they bought the console...? what did you expect would happen to the other os function when you started using it to run code that would invariably allow pirated games to be played on the console? Everyone has a right to drive a car and modify as they like, but once you start speeding through red lights, parking in handicap spaces and start driving all over the sidewalk you better believe someone's going to take that car away from you and punish you. That's how society works without devolving into "gimmie-gimmie" and "FU IDGAF" culture.

but who is sony to take away content that you paid for when you bought your ps3?

"...keep his feet firm where it is."
"Feet" is a word that conveniently refers to both FEET.
There are two of them.
Feet ARE.
A foot IS.

All in all, it seems to be from Sony's poor handling of problems.
