FPS games to generate over a billion this season |

Resistance 3, Rage and today Battlefield 3 has come out and it looks like with Modern Warfare on the horizon, it looks like 2011 turned into year of the shooter, but how much money are they expected to make?
Well, Forbes has talked to analyst Michael Pachter, remember the guy who dissed Team Bondi before they went bankrupt, and he has claimed that the games will generate 1.4 billion dollars before the year is through.
EA and Activision rivals will account for 15 percent of that final figure, which is just over two hundred million dollars, which isn't too bad or wrong considering pre-order figures and the saturation the market has, despite Battlefield 3 having close to 3 million pre-sales just before release day.
Modern Warfare however has over 5 times that amount, as Pachter predicts that Modern Warfare 3 will be responsible for 16 million units across the globe, and that there will be even more sold into 2012. Pachter added that BF3 will not outsell Modern Warfare but "...around half of the console copies of Battlefield 3 will be bought by people who will also buy Modern Warfare 3, so around 2-3 million will buy both."
I don't think the predict is far off, especially with last week's news story about game retailers offering MW3 for a dollar when trading in BF3. Also the several special editions that Activision offers their users is much like the upselling of 3D for cinema. The extra sales are often generated with special edition pre-orders rather than players who buy the standard editions the second week in. I know I will be buying BF3 the day Modern Warfare 3 comes out just to trip out the retailers.

If you like shooters that much, why not join the U.S. Army? They're short in recruits and would happily take you in and send you off Afghanistan.
