Ex-Volition Staff Members apologize for Red Faction Armegeddon |

Red Faction Guerilla was an incredibly well made and thought out game when it came to gameplay. Having the absolute insanity of a destruction physics engine with the pro-terrorism message set on Mars, it sounds like an escapist and narrative-driven piece that only video games can do. Red Faction Armeggedon on the other hand...not so much.
The game was really cool in the demo I played, but I never really got around to getting the full game for multiple reasons and THQ pulled the plug on the series last July when Arrmeggedon did not sell too well. Ex-staff members who worked on the game said to Play Magazine, one staffer in particular Wayne Adams was frank about the experience and said the last game in the series suffered from "Feature Creep".
"The last game had one flaw and that was interference," explained Adams to Play Magazine. "What people play, when they play [the game] is not what it started out to be. A lot was changed on the story side of things. Elements were introduced and things had to either be scrapped or re-purposed to keep up with the game." The concept of Feature Creep is when a game is being made and the game designers start thinking of cool features which often have nothing to do with the game's storyline or gameplay.
This is often seen in film when there is a shot for no reason that doesn't add anything to the character's plot or something is said in the story which sounds cool but doesn't add anything to the character arc. People have trouted out examples such as Duke Nukem Forever and Dark Void, as games that were either flooded with unnecessary features and were then criticized for such. Either way, I still want to play RF:A and I wish the Volition staff the best in the future.

Also - HyperCoyote, is there anything specific you'd like to see changed?

The only thing I would personally like to see is less opinion and more news. I have been frequenting this website since around 2006 - 2007 and love your news articles but let's be honest here. As much as people have hated the POV articles they were at the least a facet for the members of the QJ community to voice their opinions on some stuff. For people who dislike those articles/opinions they have the choice and option to not view said POV article page. In closing, I really do enjoy the writing by the staff and the effort you people make to bring the latest news to all of us gamers here but please let's keep it as news. Opinion wars should be launched off in the message box not in the article. (does not have any direct relation to this article other than "My" Point of View.)
