ESA Drops SOPA Support |

SOPA/PIPA fallout continues to roll across the web, with every day bringing a new renouncement from a former supporter. Today’s news, however, is the biggest yet – the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which represents industry bigwigs like Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, has officially reversed its position on the controversial legislation.
In a statement issued early this morning, the ESA noted that while it is still important to find ways to protect the intellectual property of its members, it was swayed by concerns over the “unintended consequences” presented by the current drafts of SOPA and PIPA. The ESA was, by far, one of the most powerful lobbying organizations that stood in favor of the bills; their retreat, though late, marks a big win for both the gaming community and SOPA/PIPA opponents in general.
As we mentioned last week, SOPA and PIPA have both been postponed – for now. Congress and organizations like the ESA are still looking for ways to control piracy, though now they adamant about finding a solution that addresses both the concerns of the entertainment industry and the worries of web users. Time will tell if Congress can learn how the Internet works quickly enough to move on this issue in a smart and safe manner.

There is no SOPA any more. At least not until they change it.
Any company or organization coming out now saying they dropped support for it, is nothing but a pussy move. They're just trying to kiss everyones ass who did not support it now that they lost.
