Epic Says The Game Industry Is Immature

Mike Capps recently spoke with Games Industry about his feelings regarding the gaming industry's claims that the gaming startups that have been popping up are "entreprenuership gone right," while the practice of maintaining a solvent business is a problem area for most game companies.

Capps says that the games industry is "shockingly immature" when it comes to being a business. "So few folks have business experience before coming in, or an education for business," Capps added. He also talked about how there is not much sharing in the games industry, often out of a corporate xenophobia.

Capps has said that there are no real "how to" game business books out there and that people need to "share" and "listen" so everyone can learn more about their mistakes and where their strengths are. I could not agree more.

The topic of sharing and supporting the industry came up with the talk on Monday night at Bits and Pieces. The games industry is pretty tight-lipped and needs to be a bit more open with it's fan base and it's other gaming cohorts to really make a good game in this industry.
