EA Going Fully Digital "In the Near Future" |
Listed in: News Tags: digital downloads, EA, Electronic Arts

EA Labels President Frank Gibeau has a vision when it comes to where the company is going as regards digital distribution. That is to say, he believes that it is the way of the future and the future is now, or very soon at least.
"We have a clear line of sight and we're excited about it. Retail is a great channel for us. We have great relationships with out partners there. At the same time, the ultimate relationship is the connection that we have with the gamer.
"If the gamer wants to get the game through a digital download and that's the best way for them to get it, that's what we're going to do. It has a lot of enhancements for our business. It allows us to keep more that we make. It allows us to do some really interesting things from a service level standpoint; we can be a lot more personalized with what we're doing."
Ultimately, though, Gibeau says it's up to the consumer.
"But if customers want to buy a game at retail, they can do that too. We'll continue to deliver games in whatever media formats make sense and as one ebbs and one starts to flow, we'll go in that direction.
"For us, the fastest growing segment of our business is clearly digital and clearly digital service,s and ultimately Electronic Arts, at some point in the future, we're going to be a 100 percent digital company, period. It's going to be there someday. It's inevitable."
What do you think about this? Do you welcome the purely digital way of the future?

For someone like me who makes it their mission to NOT buy NEW(because I refuse to pay for V.A.T - Consumer tax to the rest of U) then this will only fuel the fire for greater acceptance for playing games PIRATED!!!!
CAN'T WAIT!!!!!LOL
For EA & the rest to really start losing money because of rampant piracy - they only brought it upon themselves!

I think that about explains this.

"at some point in the future, we're going to be a 100 percent digital company, period."
Look up the meaning of 100 percent while you're at it.

"But if customers want to buy a game at retail, they can do that too."
"At some point in the future"....I hope for your sake, you're joking. There is absolutely nothing official about that comment. That comment is 100% speculation.

They have options to buy a game at retail right now, but after they said that, they said that at some point in the future they will inevitably go 100% digital, meaning no more retail.
Otherwise he would have said 50% digital, 50% physical or some percentage leaving room for retail.
Also, why would I be joking, when I quoted the guy from EA...did you even see the "" marks around that??

"We'll continue to deliver games in whatever media formats make sense""
That includes the FUTURE. I know English is a tough language to grasp but this really isn't that complicated.
Also, offering 100% of their products as digital download DOES NOT mean no retail. They can have 100% of their product as digital and 100% as retail.
Think about it for a while. It'll start to make sense.

What does this mean?
Well, in it's proper use here, 100% means completely, entirely, wholly.
In period's proper use here, it means an irrevocable and no longer discussable decision.
Note also that he said that they would be 100% digital(and that it's inevitable) after he said what you quoted.
As I've said, read it in the order that it was said in.
Also, I would say that you should get a better grasp on the English language, but you seem to be a pro at it, so why don't you try telling me the meaning of 100%, since I apparently don't know what the fridge it is that I'm talking about, huh wisenheimer?
Also, happy 4th of July.

Offering 100% of your product as digital does not mean ONLY digital.
I guess time will tell wont it? Wanna come back in 10 years to see who's right?

If I'm 100% right, then I'm not any percent wrong, right?
Well then, if a company goes 100% digital, then they do not have any percent retail.
Also, by the time 10 years passes this site might not exist, and I'll probably be doing more important things.

The thing you fail to understand is that a game can be offered both digital and retail. It's not simply one or the other.
They can offer 100% of their titles as digital AND retail.
You need to think about it longer. Maybe 10 years? That should do it.

Guess what?
Everything's going digital, and retail costs more, so that's obviously the direction they're wanting to go.
Retail is like VHS tapes.
VHS copies of movies were offered for a little while then movies went 100% DVD and dropped the VHS.
As much as I find the idea of entirely digital gaming something terrible, it's going to most likely happen and saying things like, "They can do both!" won't stop them from going fully digital.

No, it's not. Plus VHS and DVD are both RETAIL and physical copies and people buy the shit out of DVDs.
What's the matter? Can' decide which account to use? Split personality?

You seem to not understand what a comparison is.
VHS(Older) -> DVD(Newer)
Retail(Older) -> Digital(Newer)
I don't see people buying the s*** out of VHS tapes.
Also, sometimes I don't want to sign in(or have the time), so please, keep your petty, childish insults to yourself.

"I don't see people buying the s*** out of VHS tapes."
Why would you? I said buying the shit out of DVDs. Learn to read.
Your comparison is total crap. You talk about a physical medium changing from one to another (progressive) that are both retail and are trying to compare it to two completely different mediums, one sold at retail and one sold online. One physical and one “digital”. You need to learn what a comparison is, as it stands you have no clue.
“Also, sometimes I don't want to sign in(or have the time), so please, keep your petty, childish insults to yourself.”
Aww, someone’s little feelings got hurt. It’s ok, only children lash out.

I can see now that you aren't willing to have a discussion, you're just trolling to get some kind of odd satisfaction from me responding with frustration to your comments.
I shouldn't even respond to you...
However!
I need to set the record straight, as that's just the type of personality that I have, even if you are a troll.
1. You obviously don't know what cloud is.
2. I can read just fine, but you failed to read the comments prior and understand what comparisons I meant when I used them in the ways I did.
3. My comparison wasn't about the mediums themselves, but the underlying changes, like a zebra's colors to a tiger's, I'm not comparing the animals, but their colors.
4. You are obviously trying to provoke me with your responses(which again, I'll admit you had me going for a bit there)(I'd also like to say that I'm not always correct, however here is not the case)
Well, now that those are out of the way...I'll take my leave from this topic and let the troll play.

Maybe if you spent more time thinking instead acting like a shmuck you would clearly see that.

This sums you up well. You can’t even help yourself. What a fool.
You set nothing straight. The only thing you do is go around and around in circles with nothing but nonsense. Enjoy your future where exabytes of data get downloaded every months to every household on the plans thus killing retail..... like I said, you’re a joke!

I agree. It even says that consumers have a choice of either lol.
