EA CEO Says There's No Link Between Games and Violence

The video game industry has taken a verbal pounding from many politicians as of late.  To counter all the attacks, the CEO of Electronic Arts has joined the debate, saying that there’s no link between video games and violence.

John Riccitiello, CEO of EA, used a post-earnings financial call to discuss video games and possible links to violent real-life events, such as the December tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. He said: “There's no doubt, we like you, were stunned and horrified by the violence in Connecticut or Colorado or many other places over the years.  But there has been an enormous amount of research done in the entertainment field about looking for linkages between entertainment content and actual violence, and they haven't found any.”

Riccitiello continued: “And I could give you long stories about how people in Denmark or the UK or Ireland or Canada consume as much or more violent games and violent media as they do in the United States, and yet they have an infinitely smaller incidence of gun violence. But that's not really the point. The point is that direct studies have been done, hundreds of millions of dollars of research have been done, has been unable to find a linkage because there isn't one.”

You can read the rest of Riccitiello’s comments at the source.

What do you think of his Riccitiello’s comments compared to politicians who blame video games for real-world violence?  Does he make good points?

As well as dumb people who jump on the "dumb American" bandwagon without doing any research.

You realize that nest to Japan, America has some of the least laws regulating videogames right? Most other countries are far stricter on games allowed to be sold.

That dosen't stop the senators in America trying to argue against games from being idiots mind you.

even though i agree with the dude, the CEO of a company that makes and distributes games probably wont be a guy that pollies are likely to listen to about video game violence.
that being said http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States
school shootings have been happening since 1700's, but yeah its video games.
