Another game's launch gets cockblocked by the earthquake that hit Japan last weekend. Disaster Report 4 was supposed to launch this Spring, but its developer, Irem, has now decided against it.

Not only is it being postponed, however, it's officially been canceled. The company did not give out a specific reason why they've decided to can the game, but it's fairly obvious that it has something to do wtih the context of the game and the recent events in Tokyo.

Nope, it doesn't look good, alright.

Disaster Report 4 opens the game with a major earthquake hitting the city where the lead character is visiting. The hero must then make his way through all the rubble and escape the inferno that the city has become. It would have been the franchise's first entry into Sony's PlayStation 3 platform.

Irem even managed to bring the game to last year's Tokyo Game Show and had it available for demo play to attendees.

i was looking forward to this game, but oh wel.. it was the right thing to do given the sensitive nature of the game's context.

I don't really believe it was the "right move". In fact, I believe it would have been touching if they changed it a little, had references to the real disaster, then a huge "In memory of:" or similar at the end.

On one hand, games can evoke strong emotions when done right so I would've still green-lighted this

On the other hand, yeah, the [world] media would be all over this and so this is the smart business decision
