A very, very long time ago, Blizzard confirmed that it was toying with the idea of bringing Diablo III to consoles. And while no official plans were ever made, it’s certainly safe to assume the company hasn’t abandoned the idea since the PC release of the game.

Actually, scratch that—you don’t even need to assume anymore, because good old Blizz has now publicly stated that the game is up and running on consoles.

One bit of buzzkill: Blizzard doesn’t consider the console version of Diablo III to be an official project. Instead, it’s something they’re “kind of exploring.” Here’s exec Rob Pardo on the topic:

“We've got builds up and running on it. We're hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we're not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it's looking pretty cool.”

Make of that what you will. Blizzard is notorious for long development times and a “when it’s ready” release schedule, so it’s probably smart not to hold your breath over a console-based Diablo for now.
