Electronic Arts loves microtransactions. The company admitted as much last year when it announced its intentions to put the small-value purchases in all of its future titles. And, true to its word, EA has just announced that Dead Space 3 will indeed include a variety of little purchases to help you drain your wallet.

Associate producer Yara Khoury described the purchases in an interview with Eurogamer:

“You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace. So you don't have to spend [real world] dollars.”

Before you freak out about people buying their way to the best gear, consider that the Dead Space 3 resource system is designed to prevent this type of boosting:

“There are a lot of weapon parts that are only available to buy later in the game. Unless you're playing through it again [on New Game Plus].”

So there you have it. In-game crafting resources will be available for real-life dollars, but you presumably won’t be able to purchase an advantage if you happen to have deep pockets.
