1. David Cage sick of space marines
2. Heavy Rain is very personal

"[Heavy Rain] is the one I was dreaming of. I worked so hard on the story, and it's the first ever I wrote that was based on something personal.

It was not about space marines fighting aliens, it was about my relationship with my first son and how he changed my life - and also about how loving someone without expecting anything in return was something totally new."

It should be good exercise, too, so he believes. "There should be more people trying this."

Space marine.

As a parting note, he gives this advice: "Don't write about being a rookie soldier in WWII, because you don't have a clue what that's like. Talk about yourself, your life, your emotions, the people around you, what you like, what you hate - this is how the industry will make a huge step forwards. I'm fed up with space marines."

It's a good point and there certainly is room for more fresh content, especially since Hollywood seems to be getting staler by the day, but I'm not convinced that most game devs lead lives that are interesting enough to base games around.

On the other hand, if he looked at his relationship with his son and somehow got Heavy Rain out of that, then I suppose there is potential for the average dev's life to inspire a good game.

Not all games (or gamers) are going to apprciate a game where you run around calling for "Jay-Son". Heavy Rain was it's own beast and I liked it for what it is... that said, I still love all the other kinds of games out there that do the space marine and alines thing, there's needs to be both in the world.
