Quantic Dream's David Cage marches on with his advocacy for auteurism in the gaming industry. Recently, he talked about how the industry needs more auteurs that will deliver more unique stories.

In this latest interview with The Guardian, Cage expounds on this concept further, specifying that game creators should in fact talk about themselves.

It's not about being narcissistic; it's just about imparting a story that could be very relatable to the audience, unlike those stories about space marines. Not to say that there's anything wrong about space marines per se.

He thus explains, "I hear many developers in the US saying the same thing - 'look, I'm 40, I'm fed up of writing games where you shoot at everyone. It was fun when I was twenty but now I want to do something else.

I don't want to watch the same movies as I did when I was 20, I don't listen to the same music, but I'm still making the same games!' Developers are fed up - they want to talk about their families, politics, whatever - why not in a game? Why not?! There is no reason."

Cage then explained why Heavy Rain is one good example of this concept he's trying to impart to his fellow creators.

It's a good point and there certainly is room for more fresh content, especially since Hollywood seems to be getting staler by the day, but I'm not convinced that most game devs lead lives that are interesting enough to base games around.

On the other hand, if he looked at his relationship with his son and somehow got Heavy Rain out of that, then I suppose there is potential for the average dev's life to inspire a good game.

Not all games (or gamers) are going to apprciate a game where you run around calling for "Jay-Son". Heavy Rain was it's own beast and I liked it for what it is... that said, I still love all the other kinds of games out there that do the space marine and alines thing, there's needs to be both in the world.
