David Cage: No sequel for Heavy Rain

Quantic Dream studio boss David Cage said that he 's not interested in developing a second installment of the psychological crime thriller, instead, he wants to create a much darker title.

In an interview with Spong, Cage says:

"We created the genre," referring to Heavy Rain’s interactive storytelling. "We own the genre, and we want to show that Heavy Rain was not a coincidence or a lucky shot - that it was really something that makes sense and that we can build on.

"But at the same time I didn’t want to make a sequel. I made that very clear before knowing whether the game would be a success or a failure, because I want to show that it’s really a genre. Which means that you can use a similar drama to tell any type of story in any genre and in any style.

"So, we are going to explore different directions. Still very dark, still for adults, but completely different from Heavy Rain. We want to satisfy our fans, but we want to surprise them too. That’s our challenge."

The story changes so much based on what you do and there's like 21 endings or something like that so they can't possibly do a sequel because it would have to assume that one certain story actually happened. I like that they are taking this in a new direction, its gonna be just as good as heavy rain is.

Any direct sequel to Heavy Rain would not make sense in any possible way. A spiritual successor though, that I can dig. I like the gameplay of Heavy Rain because it's not about skill, it's about choices. As long as you can pick up a controller, press some buttons and turn the joystick.

I wonder what type of game we will see next? I would like to see on PSN a Alan Wake type of game! Now that game will creep you out.
