If you're looking for a game that will be a walk in the park, then Dark Souls is not the game for you. Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki expressed that he and his From Software Team have every intention to make the game as difficult as it can get.

"I have no intention to make the game any easier," he told Next-Gen. "In fact, I want it to be more difficult. The way I put it to my team is that we are trying to make the most difficult game it is possible to make, which at the same time can be conquered by those who persevere. It has to be firm, but fair."

The director further explains that there are actually five criteria that should be met before the difficulty level of Dark Souls is approved. "We want any player to be able to clear any obstacle simply by learning from simple mistakes and paying close attention," he explained.
