Consoles can't handle F1 2011's multiplayer

F1 2011's lead designer, Stephen Hood, revealed that consoles can't handle the game's online multiplayer.

The game was originally supposed to feature 24 players racing online in one match, but the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game just couldn't handle it.

"Microsoft and Sony quite rightly impose restrictions on network bandwidth to allow players that may only have a 1mb connection to play online," Hood said. "We're hitting the ceiling with F1 2011 and we asked if they would relax the boundaries for this game but they obviously didn't want to. That leap to 16 players and 24 cars is really pushing what we can do at this point."

F1 2011 was scaled down to 16 players, with 8 of the 24 cars being AI controlled.

The PC version of the game might have been able to support 24 players, but the audience wasn't there.

"The PC is a much smaller audience compared to console," Hood said. "So there's no way we can dedicate resources to getting it working only for PC."

so to include ps3 say'n cant handle thats bs. now 360 cant ps3 can. people suffern alot of because of the 360 cant. dam step ur hardware up 360 we suffer because of u. devs keep sayin when a game has alot in it, they always say 360 an ps3 cant handle it.

look at LA NOIR WHO HAS 2 USE 2DISC 1 more why was GTA wasn't fully finished because 360 couldn't handle it.
yea yea when 360 an ps3 new consoles come its not goin 2 b a problem,but 4now its jus 360 an devs that make games on both consoles scared, paid off or dont want 2 loose there partnership wit 360 an thats y. ill wait 2 c sum1 say 360 is the best guess what they both r good consoles but ps3 hardware way better

Its PROGRAMMERS can't handle more efficient coding and are lazy to optimize the code, so please stop with retarded news like "our game is so awsum that ps3 almost explodes in multiplayer WOWOZOZOOWZ!!!! !!" Cool huh? We are great programmers dont you think so ? We programmed the game like that and now you cant have multiplayer WOPW!!! AMAZING I TELL YOU !!!! hahaha idiots.

This title really should read "Xbox 360 can't handle F1 2011's multiplayer" but Codemasters obviously didn't want to single it out. As we all know the PS3 doesn't have that network bandwidth restriction with many games boasting more players in online games

360 lacks in hardware acceleration, games like gta4, ff13 that have to be on 3 discs. SquareEnix even had to downgrade the audio files of ff13 so it cud barely fit on 3discs lol. plus...-FF13 was ruined with lacking the features the developers wanted in the game, but 360 couldnt handle it. and for online microsoft always impose restrictions to their servers... example VALVE! who wanted steam on 360 couldnt. yes you guessed why.
for us gamers ff13 would have been a really great game..
like the guy above said ps3 online handles 256 players online at one time in one spot of the map pretty well (MAG). and i play GT5 online with 20players in one lobby racing...guess what? it runs pretty smooth.
its not the developers fault, but its the hardware that lacks power to be used to its full potential by a software. hardware has to be good for a good software to be used. this is the main reason why we gamers arent getting our moneys worth on Non-PS3-Exclusives.
