Console users make up half of Netflix

Netflix has apparently hit the jackpot when they went on board the consoles train. It has been found by Neilsen, the research company, that half of the service's users are from consoles.

Nielsen based the findings on a research they conducted back in March, interviewing 12,000 users of the TV and film streaming service. 50% of the total number of participants answered that they do use their consoles for Netflix, broken down as such: Wii: 13%; PS3: 12%, Xbox 360: 12%.

We're not really surprised that Wii takes the lead on this one, considering that just earlier this month, Nintendo boasted of the 1.5 million Netflix streamers from Wii on a daily basis. Of course, the PS3 and Xbox 360 are most often being used for playing games.

The other 42% claimed to using Netflix on their computers. The remaining 8% are then distributed among other media. The 3DS only got the Netflix streaming service a couple of weeks back.

I don't see Netflix putting a premium on using their service on a console (or HDTV or BD/DVD player, etc). Being that Netflix pushed so hard to have an app on all those platforms has really opened up their user base and made their product a great success. My wife and father inlaw would not touch a console if it were not for Netflix.

As for the price increase rumor, the mail DVD service and the streaming service were split. If you only use streaming the price HAS NOT CHANGED ($7.99/month as of 7/30/2011).

...is that their numbers are almost equal in percent units. It's just interesting though... not sure what it actually says about anything other than that about 12% of the console userbase enjoys online subscription based movies.

that maybe true but cdn. licence support sucks when it comes to content
