It's certainly been a crazy week when it comes to gaming and tech news. Not to fear however, because Confessions of a Gamer is back to bring you one more opinionated dose of the hottest topics in the industry. As usual, next-gen is going to be a huge focus this week, so whether you're looking forward to the 720, PS4, or you own a Wii U, this is a column to pay attention to. Not to mention we have your healthy fill Apple news too. Time to start confessing!
Will The PS4 and Xbox 720 Dominate the Wii U?
The Wii U has certainly been a controversial console since its release in November. If you look at the early statistics, things looked to be doing pretty well for the new console, but ever since there's no real denying that sales of the system have slowed down during the holidays. A lack of new releases certainly doesn't help the problem, but this among other issues has lead many analysts to believe the Wii U may eventually be in trouble when the next Sony and Microsoft machines roll out. As suggested by Piers Harding-Rolls of Screen Digest, he believes it is in fact Nintendo's lack of online prowess that might eventually do the unique system in.

I certainly do agree that Nintendo has always needed to step up its online presence. After all, ever since the days of the Gamecube, the brand has lagged behind Microsoft and Sony as they began to flesh out their own internet systems. Obviously it has been their strategy to focus on making interesting console designs rather than focus on connectivity, but that may not be the best move for them considering how tied to the net we have become. early rumors from both the 720 and PS4 camps promise strong social media participation, so I think Nintendo needs to start working a little harder in this vain as well. Even now the Nintendo Network is looked at as a somewhat incomplete interface which won't be good when the others refresh their own options.
Personally I think the lack of third-party support is a little more concerning than internet use, but I do agree the Wii U will be playing catch up in the coming months. Speaking of new hardware, let's check out the latest offering from a little Cupertino outfit known as Apple!
