CES: No PS4 Announcement Incoming

CES has been packed to the gills with big announcements, but nothing so major that it shook the foundation of gaming. Instead, all eyes are on this year’s E3 event, where everyone is expecting a new console from Microsoft and possibly one from Sony. While hype has been swirling around a simultaneous reveal from both companies, Sony chief Kaz Hirai has a bit of tough news for Sony fans.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Hirai indicated that rumors of a Sony reveal at this year’s E3 were “wide of the mark.” He also noted that he feels the PS3 has a ten-year life cycle, and that there’s no reason to back away from that plan.

This information flies in the face of sourced info claiming Sony had new hardware to display this year, but it’s entirely possible they’re just revealing a new version of the PS3. It’s also counter to reports that some Sony-specific studios have already shifted to PS4 game development. Whatever happens, it will be curious to see how Sony sticks to its ten-year plan once the Wii U and Xbox 720/Infinite/Loop/Whatever actually hit shelves.

It's way too early for a new Sony console.
See unlike Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony actually planned ahead and made sure it could survive in the "future".

The Wii and the XBox 360 had outdated technology on release. I mean come on, DVDs.
Next thing you know they'll release a new XBox that has a VHS deck in it with LaserDisc support and a peripheral add-on for 8Track, BetaMax, Floppy Discs(8-inch, 5 1⁄4-inch, and 3 1⁄2-inch), and Zip disks.
And to connect it to the internet you have to use a 56k modem...

Although if that were a real thing I would buy it.

Actually, LaserDisc would be an upgrade from DVD. So the Xbox 720 should have LaserDisc, that would totally kick ass!!!!

I think Skyrim is proving that wrong hardware-wise...

Not to mention the fact that compared to the PS2 the PS3 has very, very little quality games that aren't HD remakes and ports.

You say the PS3 has very few little quality games, I have bought more than 40 games for it, and though there are some crappy, and some ok I'm extremely happy with more than 20.

In your top list of quality games probably sit Halo on top, and some other Microsoft shooting crap…

And the 10 year console cycle is nothing to scoff about, just look at the ps2… Which, to me, is riddled with 90% of crap games.

Oh and if you guys believed this announcement you would be deft, 'cose most ps3 news came as "it won't happen" from sony, and then it happened…. Just saying, that i don't believe Sony's announcements, not that I believe the PS4 will come out!

PS3 could EASILY survive. If Microsoft and Nintendo release new technology, the costs will be immense. The development costs of the games would either raise the current $60US price or make it less appealing to develop quality games for.

On the other hand, PS3 prices will continue to go down, and it is still a great system which includes a blu-ray player, the graphics are still top notch and, if they can create an addon that will increase RAM or something at a low cost (remember the N64 expansion pack?), they suddenly increased the potential of it.

Maybe if people stopped believeing RUMOURS we wouldn't be expecting an announcement?

Is this all news is becoming now? Rumours?
