Capcom VP 'frustrated and upset' by PSN outage |
Listed in: News Tags: Capcom, PlayStation Network, Sony

Not only has the PlayStation Network outage caused headaches and, at times, bouts of anger in PS3 and PSP owners, it has also cost Sony some serious money. The company has reportedly lost billions since the online service was taken down on April 20, but don't think that they're the only ones losing money over it.
Posting on the Capcom Unity forums, Capcom VP Christian Svensson lamented that they haven't been spared by not only the financial downside of the outage but the more personal problems it has caused as well.
"I'm frustrated and upset by it for a number of reasons," he said. "As a consumer, I also play games online on PS3, which I can't do... and likely my personal information is also compromised. Secondly I like to buy things in the PlayStation store and that I can't do right now.
"On a related note, as an executive responsible for running a business, the resulting outage obviously costing us hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in revenue that were planned for within our budget. These are funds we rely on to bring new games to market for our fans.
"In short, the hackers appear to be trying to 'punish' Sony for some perceived injustice, and they've been effective in that I suppose. But they're also punishing millions of other consumers and businesses which makes it impossible to be sympathetic to their 'cause'."
Among the many PSN-related problems that PSN users are going through right now is the inability to play some games that don't even relay on online multiplayer. Capcom's Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2, for one, has locked out players entirely due to the game requiring an active PSN connection for its DRM. Other game publishers and developers have also been kept from releasing PSN games that should have launched by now due to obvious reasons.

These hackers can't realize that the world doesn't own them a free ride.
I hope every hacker fucking dies a long horrible death.

A copy protection that's gonna make all games unplayable as soon as PSN close its servers is NO WAY an ideal solution- especially for punishing those who bought them games in the first place

no they didnt put up a sign saying "HACK ME" but they DID put up a sign promising a console that would be able to run a o.s.
then decided they'd change their minds after they got peoples money
i hope they go bankrupt personally
i didnt buy the ps3 just to play games on, i bought it because of the promise that i could run a o.s. on it as well as play games and blu-ray movies and browse the internet
if i wanted JUST a console, i had a wii and a 360
instead i got ps3 because what they advertised that turned out to be nothing but lies
im loving this shit
who ever is nailing sony...keep up the great work and thank you for doing so

Oh right, it's for the "principle of the thing".

That's like saying you OWN a 2GB demo that you downloaded and but have to PAY to unlock the full game. Why? You already downloaded it! It's already on your computer/device!
If you want to use the CONTENT then you have to PAY FOR IT. Regardless of how that content is sent/provided to you.

I wont try to explain it to you,I will instead simply point out that you are a fool, dawg.

Thanks for sparing me.

Awww man! I was called a fool in the internet. MY LIFE IS OVER!!!!

Your comment makes ZERO sense, he didn't download a FREE demo! #1 the story is about not being able to play an OFFLINE game (even if you Paid full retail price!) if you can't connect to the PSN.
#2 If you are referring to buying a video game used & having to pay the company a fee to play online -that's crap too! So, WHAT you'd be ok buying a used Chevy & having to pay GM a fee to be able to drive it on roads?????
If I saved my Atari 2600 from the 1979 I could STILL play any game for it -used or bought new!
Reply
Your old atari games didn't have servers that had to be maintained and run, and despite popular belief, this costs money.
Chevy doesn't have to do anything to make sure you can still use all the features of the car, that's fully dependant on the user selling you the vehicle.
And any ued PS3 game that uses the whole Online Pass, if you don't pay for such pass you pretty much get the same experience you got from the games for the Atari 2600 which as far as I know didn't have online.

Apollo887,
Yeah but when you buy a game and someone else plays it, why should they have to pay again for a copy that was already paid for. It is not like another copy that will cause more server use, it is the same amount of use. Also I am not sure how it works when renting games. If I rent a game that requires online pass does that mean I have to purchase online pass in order to play online? If so that is not right.

As for rentals I really don't know how the model works.

If you pay $50 for X amount of content that does not mean you are entitled to Y amount as well (even if Y is piggy backed on top of it). If you want X and Y then you must pay for X and Y.
Do you realize that most products (models) on the self are EXACTLY the same even though you pay more for the model with more features? Usually there is something stupid like a cut resistor that disables the feature on the cheaper one. So are you also entitled to that feature even though you didn't pay for it? Sure you could open it up and replace the resistor and POOF you got the higher model. If you are able to steal ones work in such a way then knock yourself out!
If you want it, then you have to pay for it.

i own everything that came in the package with that piece of shit

their agreement is NOT law binding i wouldnt think

No, once again, you do not own the software. If you buy a book do you own the words? NO. You own the book, not the story.

Remember how many versions of Street Fighter came out? uhhh.... (blank)

lol answering your trivia, only for Street Fighter 2 I think there were about 5 different versions on the SNES alone.

As a business I guess Capcom tries to make as much money as possible and no wonder they try to sell you stuff on disc already because it is probably cheaper to put it on disc during the manufacture process than to pay Sony to put a larger file for download on their service. The thing that sucks though is games used to cost no more than $50 and now a game is not complete unless you buy all the content for it and sometimes that can get a cost upwards towards $100.
