Capcom Responds to Resident Evil 6 Theft |
Listed in: News Tags: Capcom, re6, resident evil 6
If you happened to live in the city of Poznan, Poland, as of Friday you were able to get your hands on a copy of Capcom's Resident Evil 6 over a month before its official release date on October 2nd. While you may not have known it at the time, obviously this was not a completely legal maneuver by retailers, and the developer has finally broken its silence on the matter calling the mishap an unfortunate mistake of stolen goods. Still what may be sad for the creators might have been able to put a smile on many gamers' faces regardless.

Game leaks are certainly a lot more of a rarity when compared to other industries. Sure we may have heard about Halo betas being pushed into the public sphere in past years, but it's nothing compared to a medium like music that has been known to surface illegally about two weeks early as a commonplace. Even when it comes to residents of the area, they seem equally as confused since their is no game manufacture plant even remotely close to the city in which these games were found. This has lead many consumers and developers alike that a German plant must be responsible for the blatant misuse of intellectual property.
In what Capcom has referred to as "an unfortunate incident" it is true that a small number of the zombie killing title have wrongfully made it into the hands of eager buyers. However, as we know with technology, just a small number of anything can easily be duplicated and replicated to any number of less than condoned locales. While some members of the community have been respectful, there will be thousands more releasing unsanctioned info about this game. If you're a RE fan that wants to wait for a street release then, I would suggest keeping your ears and eyes closed to any accounts on the game itself (excluding this one of course.) As Capcom begins a formal investigation against these thieves, as lovers of the industry we can only hope that they be brought to justice.

The people who sold it before release, or the people who bought the game?
I wouldn't call it justice to take action against those who bought the game, and I certainly think it low of Capcom to call them(the ones who bought the game) thieves.
