Bummer: PSN Games Do Not Transfer to PS4

Last night’s PS4 reveal had a bunch of good news for Sony fans. However, as the hype from the event fades and the hard questions start getting asked, the new device is starting to show a few niggling issues. No backwards compatibility is one major concern, and Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has just confirmed that PSN titles will not transfer to your PS4.

psn2

In other words, the PS4 is so ridiculously non-compatible with PS3 games that you won’t even be able to access games you’ve purchased for download, much less use an old game disc. Yoshida also noted that your old PS3 saves won’t transfer over, either, which probably won’t matter since the PS4 won’t play PS3 games in the first place. Sigh.

Sony has a “long-term” plan for bringing PS3 games to the PS4 via streaming, but it likely won’t launch with the device. And, if history is any indicator, it will probably have some sort of fee.

Thoughts?

Well this isn't a surprise. Big question is if the PS4 games are going to be locked to console/account.

Which brings in the big question of Used games.

I for one will not be buying a PS4 if this is true. :-?

They already said they will not block used games.

That was just a stupid and ignorant rumor.

The PS4 is already looking like a POS.

NO THANKS! I already have a PC with badass video cards.

The only good news about the PS4 is that it's x86. Meaning cross development with PC will be a breeze. As well as emulation!

Do you have a PC with HSA and eight gigs of GDDR5 RAM shared between an eight core 3.2GHz 64bit CPU and a modified HD 7970?

And if so, did you manage to build it for less than 48826579 gil?

I'd rather buy a third video card then pay for the PS4. Total pass.

Did you not listen when they announced the cloud gaming aspect of the ps4? You will be able to play PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3 and vita games through the ps4. That is why SONY purchased Gaikai.

Looks like you don't understand the simple fact that the average person CANNOT get the bandwidth required to do as such.

I'm giving away FREE MONEY!!!! To anyone who is over 30 feet tall.....

It's just lame lie,how difficult can be to emulate an older system gaming on such powerful new technology. It even use same blu ray media so why can't it play older generation of games. They'll probably release the same games and make you pay again.

Totally different processor in the PS4, so that why you can't emulate to run the games decently. Maybe PS2, but it still is a hassle of time to get most games working. If anything they should of added Emotion Chips & Cell Processors to play PS2&3 Games, but they want to go cheap.

Yeah, Sony claim the PS4 is a different "architecture" than the PS3 so your PSN crap wont carry over.. even though the PSN data is actually online data rather than console specific data. I can access PS1 and Portable games I've bought over the PSN on any platform and play them on either PS3, PSP or PSV.

It's probably done on purpose so you cant get rid of your PS3 if you wanted to play PS3 games.. much like the PSVita, they use a completely different format for their discs pretty much just to piss me off and leave me with two useless pieces of shit that I'll never do anything with since theres still no decent games for.

"even though the PSN data is actually online data rather than console specific data"

That makes no sense....at all.

"I can access PS1 and Portable games I've bought over the PSN on any platform and play them on either PS3, PSP or PSV."

That's because they ALTERED those games to work on those systems.

I get the system architecture thing, but losing your account purchases is pretty lame.

You don't lose them. They just wont wont work on the PS4.

It would be like switching from Mac to PC then complaining that you can't install any of your Apple App Store purchases.

Or going from iOS to Android.

it's BS, ps4 will have a hard drive or something to put your saves and installs on, therefore we WILL be able to play any games purchased from the store (on ps3)...
