Brand Loyalty vs. Equal Love |
Listed in: News Tags: microsoft loyalty, ps3 loyalty, sony loyalty, xbox 360 loyalty

Ever since Microsoft got in on the console game with the original Xbox, there has been a debate about which is better - the Xbox or the PlayStation. Now we have the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and the debate still rages on. Most in the know agree that the PlayStation 3 is a more powerful machine that has been troubled with less problems than the Xbox 360. This has led to a bit of an elitist attitude among hardcore PS3 users - "fanboys," if you will. Conversely, the 360 has been deemed a more "accessible" machine.
For myself, I don't care either way. I go where the bargains are or where the exclusive games are. If I want to play Gears of War I'll turn on the Xbox. If I want to play Resistance I'll turn on the PS3. I don't discriminate and I just don't have the time to get all worked up about it. As far as games that are cross-platform, it's mostly about the bargain (ya gotta love capitalism). Or if a buddy already has the game on a particular console I'll go that route as well if it has an online component.
Let's face it, the "Us vs. Them" mentality has always been present in humanity. Entire populations of people have been exterminated over it, so it's safe to say that it's not going anywhere any time soon. Where do you come down in the debate?

Power's not everything, you still need other hardware to utilize the hardware...
(e.g. the fact that you can't crosschat)
Aside from that, I've never really seen a reason to choose a side in consoles.
It's mostly the game developers and console companies that make a difference.
The consoles we have today are great and each *could* be unique, but ideas are rare these days;companies and devs tend to copy each other due to that fact.

Company's change so often and change hands so often that Brand Loyalty is a farce.
I have PC, Wii, PS3, DS, I sold my POS 360 after it came back a 3rd time, I sold my PSP because I just didn't use it much....
Buy whatever consumer products you have fun with. Anything else is just stupid.

Kind of like that Enclave supporter in Fallout 3...

Because hardcore, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
Angry Birds can be pretty hardcore if you're that into it.

and bout to add Sony PlayStation Vita to the list. i really don't dislike anything but xbox's, but that's for the reason they don't make games people like me would care about, other than Gears and that was a multiplatform dev who just had a deal with microsoft

Id rather pay for online play and play fewer games but better.

My main reasons are the PS3's awful controller (convex thumbsticks?!), and Sony's long history of forcing quantity over quality.
It's more of a personal apprehension that developed during the days of PS2. That being said, there are some amazing exclusives on the PS3.
