Blogcritics on why U.S. PS3 will lose backward compatibility |

According to Blogcritics' writer Mark Buckingham, Sony Computer of America (SCEA) has indeed removed backward compatibility on U.S. 80GB systems, effectively throwing U.S. PS3 owners into the same boat as their European counterparts. In his article posted in Blogcritics, the Emotion Engine used in launch consoles (and enabled PS1 and PS2 games to run on the PS3) was eschewed in favor of software emulation for the newer 80GB PS3 units that will eventually replace the 60GB SKUs available in the market today. Sony's official reason for dropping backward compatibility on the PS3 is to concentrate on new games, new content both on the PS3 as well as PlayStation Network.
Buckingham was disappointed in the fact that Sony chose to focus more on delivering better content on its current system, in the expense of taking out an existing feature to lower costs. With PS3 SKUs that have the Emotion Engine already phased out, or will be eventually phased out in favor of the Emotion-less 80GB SKUs - there is no escaping from the newer non-backwards compatible PS3s. There is still hope though, as PS2 compatibility can still be attained through software updates.
We'll bring you more updates on this as they come, so be sure to check back.

We already know that Sony are taking the EE out of the 80GB SKU to save money. Fewer chips = lower cost. Makes sense.
We know that backward compatibility can be done well in software, and for those people that have a massive library of PS2 games and need 100% compatibility, what happened to their PS2? Did they smash it the day the PS3 was released?
We already knew the SKUs using the EE are being phased out in favor of the cheaper SKUs. Sony would be stupid not to do this (shall we continue selling the SKU that's losing us more money, or change over to a cheaper one?)
In other news, water found to be wet.

Instead they jack the console back up and try to make up for it with 20gb more space! We dont want space as much as a lower priced unit!!!!!
***** Sony, get your f'n act together!
But maybe they are trying to recoup the costs of lawyers because other *****es keep suing Sony's ass!
And Microsoft isnt much better with them coming out with a million SKUs and with half of them breaking! ***** Im tired of these consoles already. I want to go back to when they just played games instead of emptying our wallets!!
Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo; They are all *****es!

M$ are greedy *****s who'd much rather have their hardware out there and breaking than spend the time fixing it up so it works.
You aren't going to get consoles for $100 when they're released, back when previous consoles shipped people thought the prices were insane and overtime... we've got stuff like $80 GCs and $100 PS2s.

Think about it. They still support PS2-PSP-PS3 at the same time. Microsoft has X360-Halo-Halo-Halo3.. sorrry, i forgot Halo!
nintento has DS-Wii. So Sony stands tall above all while getting sued every day with some BS out of nowhere!

What about Xbox 360's backward compatibility? There's only like 400 games that work and still you haven't mentioned anything about it. Stop bashing the PS3. You will blindly defend the Xbox no matter what.
Like i've said a thousand times, if the Xbox is so great, why don't you play it instead of making irrelivant comments?

People, you have to be more sympathetic... to work at QJ.net you only need to have minimum-wage level cut and paste skills. You don't need a brain, you don't need to think.
These dullards have no skills to get a real job, let alone in real journalism, so they supplement their monthly welfare checks by being trolls with this blog. How else are the semi-retarded expected to eat? So cut 'n paste your biased nonsense QJ.net.... and try not to drool over yourselves in the process.

This has nothing to do with upscaling. This is simply a post render process, which actually has nothing to do with the PS2 at all, but (I suppose) uses the CELL again to scale and smoothen the image on the fly on a per frame update into the framebuffer (my guess).
(I guess to use the cell for post processing rather then the RSX - which also could do the scaling).
