BioShock Movie Loses Another Director |

If you’re one of the people clamoring for a film adaptation of under-the-sea thriller BioShock, you are sadly out of luck—at least, for the moment. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, director of 28 Weeks Later, is the most recent director to jump ship on the project, with original director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) performing a similar swan dive sometime last year.

Apparently, there is some sort of problem between the studio paying for the film and the game’s creator, Irrational Games (or possibly the publisher, 2K). Fresnadillo noted that no progress would be made on the project until the two entities come to an agreement regarding the movie’s budget and eventual rating. So, he’s off the job.
Reading between the lines, this disagreement doesn’t bode well for BioShock fans. An argument over budget is to be expected, but an argument over rating indicates that the film studio is looking to tone down the game’s content, which landed it a stiff “M for mature.” And a toned-down BioShock, one that’s developed for mass appeal instead of to preserve the game’s delicate balance of horror and awe, is sure to be terrible.
Thoughts on a BioShock movie?
