Bethesda Promising PS3 Skyrim Fix

Skyrim launched on November 11, 2011, and since then has been the subject of plenty of praise. Some call it game of the year, some call it game of the decade and others just call it a good game, but one group of players isn’t really feeling the praise – PS3 owners. Thanks to an issue with the way the PS3 stores game data and a lack of foresight on the part of developers, many people playing Skyrim on the Sony system have experienced game-breaking lag.

The issue has been in the gaming press for the last couple of months, with Bethesda constantly noting that they’re trying to get it fixed. The first few patches for Skyrim came and went without a PS3 fix, and players are still running into the very same issue they had on launch day.

Now, two months after the game hit shelves, Bethesda thinks they may have a solution. Skyrim update 1.4, set to go live sometime this month, should address the lag issue PS3 owners have been complaining about. The patch is currently awaiting certification from Sony, but will be live as soon as possible.

It’s nice that Bethesda finally fixed the problem, but it certainly seems like they could have acted more quickly. What do you think?

My problems have involved outright freezing, randomly (usually on load screens but sometimes just out of nowhere, say while simply walking) and with no warning. Damn thing froze the very first time I loaded it up the night of Nov. 11. Have experienced some minor lag, but absolutely nothing like what I dealt with on Fallout: New Vegas. Now THAT sucker got to be unplayable.

OMG Fallout:nv was terrible when it came to glitches. Me and my friend had a bet going on to see who could get a platinum trophy first, not knowing about the gliches i chose fallout:nv... worst experience ever!!!

Hopefully this will help the PS3 version users...

On another note, I hope they get around to fixing the houses, most notably Hjerim in Windhelm.
That place is impossible for me to buy since the quest doesn't properly start...

not with me, im playing on my ps3 fine, there wore a couple of freezing and lagging, but thats from over playing i dont blame them, i did a bunch of quests, finished the main story line, my save is more then 11mb and still playing fine... i have nothing to complaint...

It's very disheartening firing up skyrim for a day of spelunking just to have it freeze at the second loading screen of the day.

Not a very rare situation - and not even 10 seconds in...

I have been having lag issues pretty much from day 1. The strange this is, that for me it is not every time I play it, but most. The game has had a tendancy to freeze on load screens also and some strange AI behaviour - - bad guys trying to run at you but running on the spot, an advantage in 1 way as they are great to practice new spells on!! But even with all these issues, this is still the best game I have ever played, better than morrowind, which I prefered to oblivion. As frustrating as it may be when you are engrossed in your gaming, the game is superb enough to be worth the wait until the new patch is released.

This fix should have been released days after release not months. Just like with the previous fallout games I refuse to pay for any dlc they may release, Bethesda treat PS3 users like garbage.
