Battlefield 3 will "probably" use online pass |

DICE is planning to include its own online pass initiative with the release of its long awaited shooter.

Speaking to GamerZines, DICE executive Producer Patrick Bach revealed that they will ‘probably’ implement some sort of an online pass feature in Battlefield 3 that would require gamers to use a code for access to online portions of the game.
“I don't think it's an online pass,” Bach said. “I think it's our own backend. I'm not sure I want to call our system an online pass."
According to Bach, this is necessary to force preowned buyers to pay extra for access to online.
“The whole idea is that we're paying for servers and if you create a new account there is a big process on how that is being handled in the backend. We would rather have you buy a new game than a used game because buying a used game is only a cost to us; we don't get a single dime from a used game, but we still need to create server space and everything for you."
"We want people to at least pay us something to create this because we're paying for it. It was actually a loss for us to have new players," he continued. "Hopefully people understand why. It's not to punish people. To us it's compensation."
DICE joins the list of developer's who will implement online pass on their upcoming games. Battlefield 3 will be out on October 25 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

i'll try to make it more clear...
i buy a game for $60, server costs are included in the price.
I sell the game for $30
i'm not playing the game anymore, which means i won't make any traffic on their servers.
the guy i sold the game to would be taking my "place" something that was already paid for...

I understand the way you are explaining it, but from what Bach said, I think he means it like this; Buyer01 buys new, activates online pass, new space is created for this user. Buyer01 sells his copy, the space that was created for Buyer01 will ONLY BE for Buyer01 so the space will remain there for him/her indefinitely. Buyer02 buys Buyer01's copy of the game, purchases online pass, a new space will be made for him/her just like Buyer01 indefinitely.

If people don't wanna pay for an online pass, BUY NEW! Its not like they are saying, "buy our game brand new, and you STILL have to purchase an online pass."

It still means they got the original money from the new game, and are charging you again for the used game.
Pitiful really.

Well this can be played both way. People used to complain about game stores (ie: GameStop) that they would buy used games and then sell them at a higher price, and then that buyer would sell it back to GameStop and then they would resell it.
All this really is, Devs are trying to get some profit from the Used Games sales market.

This is for everyone, not just DRO.
If you can't afford to buy a brand new game at $60 bucks, then I don't think you should have a gaming system that cost a few hundred. I'm not rich or anything, but I am able to afford some things.
Also, Devs announce their new games months, sometimes a year, before the game even hits stores. If you are so tight on cash, you should be saving up from the time they announce it to the time it comes out.
And its not like $60 bucks for a brand new game is something new, Ever since the launch of the XBOX360 and PS3, games have always been $60 bucks (sometimes $50). Its been 5 Years since their launch and just now you guys are complaining on pricing for video games.
I understand that probably at that time $60 bucks didn't seem like much, and now cause of "recession" $60 bucks is a lot. So instead of complaining, stop buying games ("expensive" ones at least) till you are able to get back onto your feet with money.
People want and want and want, but no one wants to pay. This is how the world works, and has been since day one. Grow up and stop whining.

Just wait till Activision jumps on board with the Online Pass.
EA may have started it, but little buy little, more devs are starting to acquire this little system.
