bf3-ultra1Looks like Battlefield 3 and DICE are choosing the interesting route that Portal 2 took earlier this year with having their first timed DLC to be ported to the PS3 before the 360. The usual comparison is that in the past games have had, let's say, a less than awesome slant, towards a timed exclusive for the 360, and being a PS3 owner, I am loving it.

Announced on the official PS3 blog of DICE software, "You'll be happy to know that, starting with our first expansion pack Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand (released later this year), all full-blown upcoming expansion packs for the game will appear one week early exclusively on PlayStation 3!" Tommy Rydling, the developer on the PS3 version of the game clearly stated the exclusivity and I'm personally amazed at DICE going forward with years of exclusive DLC being ported off to the 360 side.

First, to Mr. Rydling, I am more than happy, more than more than happy. I know Sony has had their ups and downs and when the console was released I was not backing the dark horse. I am now a big fan of the PS3 as a media hub, both playing Blu-Ray's (being a huge movie buff, this was my first reason to purchase it) and then it started showing up some exclusive games I wanted to play, oddly enough PSN exclusives.

It's good to see where DICE's main priority is with fans and that it's trying to branch out into new markets as they already know where the staying power is. However, we'll see on it's release in October how well that goes down for EA and DICE.

Probably cause he knows the 360 is full of CoD loving little brats.

Welcome to a real game... although it is a lot better on P.C I will love it on my PS3!

Whilst its nice to see PS3 getting timed exclusivity, 360 users normally have like a month- a year, and I doubt even the most diehard FPS fan will be like....CAN'T WAIT A WEEK NEED MAP PACKS ETC.

It's surprising sony bothered to pay for this anyway.

But being a PS3 fan myself its more than welcome.

It's nice that the PS3 is getting some treatment especially with a big hit game such as Battlefield 3. However this move has really nothing to do with the fans at all. DICE's main priority is not fans in this case. If it were that all of the DLC would be free and given to everyone on the same day.

Although I wouldn't figure it to be a cold move in any way; it's more of a strategy. As for consoles the 360 was getting more sales from Battlefield Bad Company games (both the first and second) and 1943 while the PS3 sales lagged behind. With the community events to unlock certain maps the order would always be: PC, 360, then PS3. If they were doing this for the fans wouldn't they give this exclusivity to the group with the biggest and most active community? The PC community. It would only seem fair.

I'm sure the business heads behind this are looking at it this way: Since the PS3 is the lesser selling for our game it'd make the most sense to release this exclusive for a week on that system. That way PS3 owners would feel they're getting incentive by buying this game on their system while other communities wont feel like they're getting left behind because it's ONLY a week.

They've been guaranteed sales on the 360 and PC. So now they're working on getting the PS3 sales to that same level. Just thinking realistically I'm sure this is more of a business move than fan service.

Anyways that's my take on it~ I just happen to be buying this on the PS3 so it sounds great to me! I'll probably pick it up on the PC as well (when I can find time to upgrade it).
