Australia bites more fun out of gaming |

As your resident Australian writer, I feel like our country gets a bad rap, whether it's murderous serial killer in the outback or dangerous animals, we're really nice people...apparently a bit too nice for the amount of digital violence that can appear on screen...especially zombies.
Left 4 Dead 2 was RC (or refused classification) and then given an MA15+ (Only for those 15 and over or those younger must have a guardian present) with a substantial amount cut. The main reason has been that we don't have an adult rating for video games and that reason was recently thrown at the window when the R18+ (Restricted to people over 18) legislation finally went through and saved all our children's souls so they could go to heaven knowing safe and sound that digital people's heads would not be dismembered, regardless of being a zombie or not.
The most recent case is House of the Dead Overkill: Extended Cut. I played the original on the Wii, about a year or two ago, but apparently this new version has so much gore and boobies, that it's too sensitive for MA15+. With a game that has more swearing than a GTA game and a Tarantino movie combined, I'm surprised that no one had an outcry with the shit Sega got away with in the original.
Anyway, Sega is hoping to re-appeal the classification despite an October release date. Why it can't just be given an R18+ rating while we wait especially since it's gonna end up there anyway.
Australia sucks...

You got that right. For gaming its the worst.
Either games are banned or priced stupidly high.
For brand new games you pay double or triple the USA's prices.
No wonder this is also the pirated games capital of the world.
It's just good that modding consoles is legal here. :)

Is that actually true or does it just look that way if you compare price numbers? for example are wages the same as america? tax systems etc?

Wages are a bit different, minimum wage here is $9, but I haven't worked minimum wage in a while.
I don't really pirate games because I own a Sony console and don't plan on modding it any time soon...but yeah, we are the pirate capital behind Sweden

Technically it has not been legislated yet. All the almighty Attorneys-General have done so far is given IN PRINCIPLE support of an R18 rating - which basically amounts to them saying "Yes we SHOULD have one. So let's spend another 6-12 months fleshing it out." They haven't actually decided what material would be classified R as yet, or what content will still be banned, hence why MA15+ is still the maximum rating a game can obtain at this stage.

Being in Australia, it's sh*t without a R rating but it's looking likely we'll have it at year's end.

Plus, I believe they are in the process of removing that ban. It was always stupid since Australia's rating system is far laxer than America. Anything MA 15+ here will be R over there. And there's plenty of swearing even at 8:30pm on TV
