Apparently You Can Pre-Order DLC Now

With all the complaints about day-one DLC, it will be interesting to see how people feel about Rockstar’s DLC plans for Max Payne 3. The company has announced a full slate of downloadable content, all of which you can purchase before the core game even hits shelves. Think of it as negative-day DLC.

Naturally, the DLC revolves heavily around Max Payne 3’s multiplayer mode, which is the entire reason the multiplayer mode exists. Here’s a breakdown of the release schedule, courtesy of Game Informer:

June 2012

  • Local Justice Map Pack

Summer 2012

  • Disorganized Crime Map Pack
  • Deathmatch Made In Heaven Mode Pack
  • Hostage Negotiation Map Pack
  • New York Minute Co-Op Pack

Fall 2012

  • Painful Memories Map Pack
  • Trickle Down Economics Map Pack

If that sounds like something you’d like to pay for, you can do so right now. Visit GameStop or Best Buy and you’ll be able to pick up an Xbox 360 or PS3 “Rockstar Pass” for $30, which gives you full access to the DLC updates as they are released. You’ll also be able to pick up a Rockstar Pass on PC; it’s just not available at the moment.

This announcement, of course, is accompanied by a bullshit explanation from Rockstar designed to make it sound like they’re doing us gamers a favor by taking more of our money:

"The story of Max Payne 3 begins in the single-player game and crosses over into the deepest multiplayer experience we've ever created. We intend to support the Max Payne community with new and innovative content well into the future.”

Forget day-one DLC. Smart publishers are selling their DLC before their games ever hit the disc.

So the card gives you $30 to spend on Rockstar product.

WTF is wrong with that? It's no different then any other game card that's been sold for the pass decade+.

There's nothing "bullshit" about it. Jesus man, get a grip!

Maybe you guys should hold off on clicking submit for at least a day. Give yourself a full day to "think about it" before you commit. Either that or just stick to reporting the damn news without injecting your crap opinion without the PoV tag!

I think he was saying the explanation for the DLC was bullcarp...

Aside from that, I wish DLC was used as it was meant to be used and not as it is...

"We intend to support the Max Payne community with new and innovative content well into the future.”

Except, they're already making or have the content pre-release, so, yes, bullcarp.

You do not know if they'll make additional content later on.

So yeah...not bullshit.

DLC is supposed to be extra content that didn't get finished before the game was released or extra levels made AFTER the game is released. Day 0 DLC is supposed to be stuff that couldn't fit on the disc. This kind of DLC is just for them to make more money from the customer. They can get stuffed with that kind of thing. All they are doing is proving they want to rip off the gamer.
They are making a point that the game is getting DLC which should be in the disc as its going to be finished at the same time as the full game but they will force you to pay more money for that content that should be in the disc already. Its totally wrong and nobody should be buying that if you enjoy gaming and its proof they are no longer in it for the fun of gaming but they are in it for the money.

I will NOT be buying this game but I will still be playing it.

I know huh? It's like when you buy a car and then you have all these EXTRAS that you can add on on day 0. What kind of bullshit is that? If I pay $30,000 for a car that's worth $30,000 I should also get the extra $20,000 worth of stuff for free seeing as how it's all available at the same time.

Asshole businesses trying to make money off products. Who the fuck do they think they are?

Nail on the head; there's nothing wrong with this.
But paying in advance for DLC is silly. I can only see it as an easy gift for someone who's getting the game.

But games work backwards. Instead of buying a car with extra features, we're getting a car with no tires and then promised "epic tire-based expansions."

Flat out wrong.

The game comes 100% playable. Just like the car comes 100% drivable.

DLC = EXTRAS. Period. End of story.

I hope you enjoy it when they release half of the game for full price and the other half as day 0 "DLC" for the same price as the game since people like you buy and defend it. :-x

Except its nothing like that at all, its more like the "extras" come built into the car itself but are locked with a key you have to pay more for to use.

You mean like car alarms that come with the car but you don't actually get to use it unless you pay for it?

Met me guess, you're one of those gullible people that give them the OK to install the alarm and you actually think they're installing something? The car is already wired with the hardware for the alarm. All they have to do is program it and give you a different key fob.

So yeah, it's exactly like that.

Once again, for like the 20th time with you...if you want to USE IT you have to PAY for it.

It's really not that complicated.

^Pretty much this.

Physical products are finite resources, digital data is an infinite resource, why would anyone need to preorder DLC?

As a gift for someone.

There's one.

It helps to open your eyes and look outside the small box you live in.

It does all smell a bit fishy...
And you just know there's one big fish out there that's gonna reel in a big herd of Sheep, and that fish is a CoD.
