Anonymous Continues Its Attacks |
Listed in: News Tags: anon attack, anonymous, cbs, megaupload, universal attacks, universal music, Vivendi
Anonymous has just deleted CBS.com and took down UniversalMusic.com. That’s right, deleted. Not just DDos’d so it’s unavailable, but someone got access to the site and its contents, and deleted everything. It didn't last long, as CBS has since put itself back online, but it’s a sign that people are angry.

I should probably point out now that I don’t like referring to Anonymous as a group, as it is a bunch of isolated communities under a name, but it helps keep things understood. I’ll just call them ‘hackers’ from here on in.
The hackers have so far taken down the Department of Justice’s website, RIAA, EMI, FBI and now Universal, amongst others. They aren't taking the Megaupload take down too well.
Even after Universal got itself back up, the hackers took it down again. Vivendi, who used to own Universal (some of you may remember Simpsons Hit & Run?) and is involved in films, music and games, has also been taken down.
Who knows what’s next, hopefully not something game related. Star Wars? Diablo III when it hits? Xbox Live?
All I can say is keep a look out for random sites going down, as it may be the doings of some angry people in retaliation to Megaupload coming down.
I’m just angry I haven’t had a chance to retrieve my Megaupload files!!!

Destroying properly and censorship are two completely different things.
But you do bring up a good point. Most people are ignorant about the internet, laws and policies in general.

Oh really? Then why did you say, "shit like this".
"Shit like this" would be referring directly to what THIS is about which is anon attacking sites.
So, yeah, who's the moron? Learn how to talk if you want people to understand WTF you are saying.

This is borderline cyberterrorism and they will be dealt with.

Oh yeah, because no one cares about being right, just on top.

I don't support SOPA or PIPA, but I don't support wholesale theft/piracy of property either.
Reply
Well yeah, sure they do but....no one has the right to protect their property with a NUKE!
"Freedom is not a right"
Um...huh? YES IT IS! At least in America it is, I wont speak for any other country. I think you meant to say something else but I'm not sure what. No one has the RIGHT to use the internet expect for that whole fare use thing along with consumer laws.

Just don't touch the money, but make them look bad..

then just don't come on the internet....
I was backing anonymous when they started but now it looks like they just destroy everything for no good reason....
and giving them publicity for their actions...... is everything but good !
Ignore them !

If we're to the point where people say things like you just did, we're already slaves and just haven't realized...

Second, what the hell are you going to protest, the fact that you failed remedial grammar? Because you clearly haven't a grasp of current events.
"are" does not equal "our", and "there" does not equal "their".
Please focus on becoming an effective speaker/writer, THEN worry about other things.

Sounds like someone's mad SOPA didn't go through

I think they also wanted to destroy Sony, but so far it's still here, and it seems poised to stay.
Anonymous is much less effective, as far as I can see, than they claim to be. Just an annoyance, really, not much more.
Reply
Anon is NOT doing this because of SOPA. SOPA was shelved last week. It's no longer in affect.
So are they still butt hurt over PIPA? Nothing has been passed yet. So taking down entire sites is pretty f-ing stupid since nothings happened yet.
Why don't we just blow up all of congress for even "thinking" about it?
Reply
There give them taste what going to happen if they keep trying to pass the bill
Reply
No THEY'RE not. THEY are simply being butt-hurt trolls with a false sense of confidence because they've not yet been caught.
What anon does helps no one, period.

And what anon does only reinforces Congresses thinking that SOPA and PIPA are the right way to go, are you so blind that you can't see this?
Anon does nothing but muddy the waters and hurt innocent people in the process.
Reply
Yet I see none of you offering an alternative solution to SOPA and PIPA (besides being given stuff for free).
So why don't one of you who support anon provide a solution that doesn't involve illegal attacks and childish behavior.
And lets be clear, the first person to try and flame me or give me a thumbs down is part of the problem and has no desire to see honest improvements put in place.

I'm not being a smart ass here, but how old are you? Old enough to remember when TAPE DECKS first came out? Do you remember the SHIT STORM that the music industry started because people would be able to RECORD their records to tape and then simply distribute them free of charge. They SWORE UP AND DOWN that it would be the end of the music industry. How about VHS? Wanna guess what the movie industry bitched and moaned about? IT'S THE END OF MOVIE PRODUCTION!!!! THIS WILL KILL US!!!!
The only thing that needs to be "solved" is the MPAA and RIAA both need to be dismantled and told to STFU.
People will always steel. Whether the internet or tape decks or VHS players exists or not. The FACT of the matter is, most people do not and these people become rich, fat and happy regardless.

I can't agree more! I had an important .rar full of videos i made with friends at the beach. It so didn't infringe anything! I'd like to have my memories back thank you very much! I would have atleast liked a warning before they shut it down I mean come on they had our emails. Wheres the decency of this country. :(

That wasn't very smart.

*yes... they do. Right or wrong, they do.
After all it IS their property.
"Freedom is not a right"

No it's not. Freedom is predicated upon FOLLOWING THE LAWS, so if you break they law you lose the privilege of being free.
And seeing that the laws are fairly easy to follow, there shouldn't be a problem, Right?

First off, please eliminate the hyperbole because movies and music were not being pirated since "DAY ONE", they technology didn't exist until the last 30, or so, years (cassette tapes, VHS and more recent tech)

I'm 41 and I remember quite well the noise that RIAA made, I'm also a musician and I'm aware of the damage being done by people who rip music and upload it to sites like megaupload.
Now, mind you, I'm not saying RIAA is right, they really need to change their business model and catch up with the times. The MPAA just needs to be eliminated as they really don't do more than say what movies get what rating (and usually they get that wrong), and piss off movie makers.

"People will always steAl" That is no justification for ANYTHING so display a little maturity and honor.
What about the people who help get the movie made? do they deserve to be deprived of a paycheck ? Do you pay attention to the ending credits of a movie and see all the people who help get a movie made? the ones who aren't getting "rich, fat and happy"?
Your arguments are clearly poorly thought out and you clearly are deep in the pocket of "GIMME FREE STUFF OR I WILL HACK YOU!"
That makes you a part of the problem.

"*yes... they do. Right or wrong, they do."
WRONG! No one has the right to MURDER HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of people to protect their property from one person.
"No it's not."
Yes it is. Anyone living in the USA has the right to be FREE from dictatorship. In other words FREEDOM. You only lose that RIGHT if you have broken the law and have been found guilty.
"First off, please eliminate the hyperbole because movies and music were not being pirated since "DAY ONE", they technology didn't exist until the last 30, or so, years (cassette tapes, VHS and more recent tech)"
I see the problem. You MISUNDERSTOOD. Day 1 refers to the first day of EACH. Yet for some insane reason you chose day 1 to mean something completely off topic. So what did you pin point as day 1? The creation of man? The creation of Earth? The creation of the galaxy?
Quit being retarded.
"I'm 41 and I remember quite well the noise that RIAA made"
Good, then you know it's history and you know how full of shit they are.
"I'm also a musician...."
Bingo!!! Now I understand the soapbox you're standing on.
"What about the people who help get the movie made? do they deserve to be deprived of a paycheck ?"
Those people already got paid. There is no more money for them to get.
"the ones who aren't getting "rich, fat and happy"?"
Read above. Even if you cut out piracy 100% they would still get paid the exact same.
"...you clearly are deep in the pocket of "GIMME FREE STUFF OR I WILL HACK YOU!""
I don't pirate therefor you are full of shit.
"Your arguments are clearly poorly thought"
Says the idiot who thinks Americans have the right to set off NUKES in order to protect their property.
I would say "nice try" but it actually wasn't.
