And Down Goes Another: BioWare San Francisco Shuttered |
Listed in: News Tags: BioWare, bioware san francisco, dragon age, EA, layoffs, mirrors edge, rumors
Chalk up another studio closure for 2013—BioWare San Francisco, which developed social games like Dragon Age: Legends and Mirror’s Edge 2D, is apparently shutting down. According to a source inside the studio, all 25-30 employees have been laid off.

The reason? Profitability, of course! EA, which owns BioWare and all of its satellite studios, determined that making mobile and social games in Redwood Shores required too much overhead (probably an accurate estimation). EA hasn’t commented, nor has BioWare, but these days it doesn’t seem like many “closing studio” rumors turn out to be false.
Here’s hoping that the good folks at BioWare San Francisco can find other work in the area—it’s not like there’s a shortage of tech and game companies around that region. In the meantime, we’ll just have to sit back and watch as more studios meet their demise.
