US Gaming in Q2: 4.5 Billion Dollar Industry |

The Games Industry is Huge. We cannot mistake that. With indie developers such as Notch making a million sales in just over two years, Deus Ex selling like hot cakes and pre-orders for MW3 and BF3 are enough to speak entirely in acronyms STSHTS.
Total spending in the games industry in the US has finally hit over 4.5 billion in the second quarter. That's just 4 months and a lot of money, that's almost like over a billion dollars a month, the games industry will definitely break over ten billion dollars this year, with spending consistently on the up and up and with November basically being the biggest month for gaming I've seen since E3 2007, it looks like this year is set to be bigger than the last.
The above figure of 4.5 doesn't even include the 1.74 spent on used games, rentals (mail and video store) digital downloads, subscription services, social networking, downloadable content or even mobile gaming.
Overall, however, spending has increased 1% since 2010 Q2, the new alternatives to physical retail have made it increase, but also remain stable as previously reported predicted NPD ratings had the possibility of having game sales dip back in 2009. However, more digital distribution services and independent games changed that significantly
What's actually really exciting is, despite living in an age where we have 3G technology, games companies still don't want to give up their international distribution rights properly and there is only a recently announced possibility that people may begin tracking digital sales...in Europe.
