Modern Warfare 3 is the Biggest Launch in History |
Listed in: Linux Tags: black ops, Bobby Kotick, modern warfare
The numbers aren’t all in for Modern Warfare 3 sales, but after tallying the numbers in the U.S. and U.K., one thing is for sure – it beat the hell out of every game preceding it. MW3, in the first 24 hours of launch an in just two of its release territories, sold an astounding 6.5 million copies.

I am the king of Photoshop.
If you’re keeping score, that’s roughly $400 million in revenue for Activision and plenty more than the $360 million generated by Black Ops or the $310 million earned by Modern Warfare 2.
Bobby Kotick, the CEO gamers love to hate, noted that the Call of Duty franchise has now generated more money than the entire Star Wars and Lord of the Rings film franchises (separately). Oh, and if you’re worried about getting bored with Modern Warfare 3, don’t worry – there’s another Call of Duty coming your way next year. I feel like Activision is eventually going to burn people out on the franchise, but maybe not any time soon.
In the meantime, Modern Warfare 3 is having a war of its own over at Metacritic. While the game is hovering comfortably at around 8/10 in terms of critic scores, user scores have pegged it much lower. It’s unclear how many of the 0, 1, and 2 reviews are from people that are simply hating on the game just to do it, or from unsatisfied gamers. The one complaint I’m seeing most often? That the game could have been released as a map pack for Modern Warfare 2.
What do you think of MW3? Are you enjoying your time in the game, or is it nothing more than a fresh coat of paint?

Well, I'm out guys. If this is what's cool now, I think I'm done. I no longer have any connection to this world. I'm gonna go home and kill myself. Goodbye, friends.

Secondly, people like you are ruining what developers worked on for years. How would u feel if u worked on a project for over a year and have someone say it's shit?
P.S. I haven't bought MW3 or BF3 nor played them.

In today's video game world, reviews are EVERYTHING. The video game giants(Activisi on, EA, Nintendo, Square Snix, Microsoft, Sony etc) know very well that reviews affect the public perception and sales of their video games.
Review Patterns
"9.00-10.00" 100,000-2,000,000+++ units.
"8.00-8.99" Around 100,000 or less.
"Anything below 8.00" Less than 50,000.
How else would the Call of Duty franchise be alive? Activision probably bribes reviewers with the ca$h they made from their earlier games. Don't believe me, check this article out:
http://www.gameplanet.co.nz/xbox/games/175508.Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops/news/136024.20101103.UPDATED-Activision-hosts-invitational-Black-Ops-review-event/
The Activision I see today is nothing like the one it was decades ago. Whoever runs this "Activision" must be some of the greediest, most uncreative, arrogant pigs the video game industry could ever have.
Otherwise, all I'm seeing today is nothing but video games being recycled over and over again. What do I mean by "recycled"? I'm referring to all the sequels they've been making for every profitable franchise possible(Mario, COD, Final Fantasy, GOW, Battlefield, etc). Where the fu*k did the originality go?
Call me a retro fu*k for all ya want I miss the old days of gaming. There used to be more originally in gaming. We'd had more fresh, newer titles come out with a fresh newer cast of characters.
Don't get me wrong. I loved many of the games released by the big players(and still do). However, I just can't help but notice we're all playing the same gameplay whenever we buy the "sequals."
It seems that Hollywoods little bad habit of recycling classics have reached the video game industry(in addition to sitcons, Anime, Manga and American comics).

70 Modern Warfare 3 doesn't reinvent gunpowder, but sticks to the recipe of the previous games in the series. With a decent story and good multiplayer it's a game worth playing, but the lack of willingness to add improvements in gameplay show a laziness often found in a complacent game series.

While it's good, I couldn't justify buying it if you already own MW2.
And the game still has a heart attack if you blow s**t up (at least it does on the PS3).
PS- I don't own it, I've just played it a mates house.
