Following up on yesterday's exciting video interview with Brian Eddy, the director of Stranglehold is this even more in depth presentation video, it opens with an explosive clip from the movie Hard Boiled (to which Stranglehold is something of a spiritual sequel), before segueing into some gameplay footage of the game. We hear more from Brian Eddy, but are also treated to hearing from the man himself, John Woo as he talks about his input on the project, which included shepherding the narrative and making sure the action was up to his dovetacular standards.

The game looks better and better with every showing, I just hope they can work on their transition animations. Stunning graphics are one thing  but every time Tequila transitions from sliding across the floor, to flipping up on two feet, or jumps on a banister it really takes you out of the games reality, something that's a problem with a lot of next gen games in general (Fight Night Round 3, I'm looking at you).

And yes, there are doves.

» nice...

Yeah, looking good.

Reminds me a lot about Max Payne, but that's not necesarily a bad thing ;P

I'll definately be checking it out.

» unimpressive

Am I the only one who thinks this is kinda underwhelming as a 'Next Gen' title? The early trailers make it look superb, but now it just looks like Max Payne meats Black with better textures and lighting. The clunky plastic doll-character are still there; they just don't feel like real people. They also keep the same expresions reguardless of whats happening to them. This just feels like another Max Payne wannabe... or dare I say Rise to Honor.

» Welcome to consoles....heh

The first few quarters(maybe one whole year) for the 360 and ps3...the games will not blow you away....*maybe a few gems* but overall you won't be blown away just yet.

Wait untill next year, the year following that, and so forth as devs take advantage of the system.

I really hate that game devs love to show fake vids of what they *think* the next gen can do...or what they think that can get out of the console in just a year or so before the console launches or right after it does....

some devs do pull through...but most of the time it looks totally different from what is shown beforehand.

» Games are just like copy cat hollywood movies

Im so freaking tired of seeing the same ol stuff over n over n over. Just like hollywood movies. All games are copies of another game w/ a different name on it. There is NO INNOVATION w/ games. GTA vs Saints Row, a copy:MGS vs Splinter Cell..same idea...twisted metal vs full auto same idea, god of war vs prince of persia...same idea..i can keep going on n on n on and especially w/ FPS games.jesus christ no matter what they make..its the same FPS or driving game that is new w/ a different title. Sure they improve on stuff but this isnt enof to catch our attention. There is no fresh meat on the market of video games and its horrible. Just like hollywood. Aeon flux vs ultraviolet..n its worse all the time. Ppl do not have any more creativity left, especially with these nooby developers. The only reason we have these copycat games, and i repeat the only reason is becuz its easy to make money off of something thats been done before. You dont need to brainstorm..all you do is copy a game, add a lil bit of this n that n that n there you have it.. the usual quote on the back of the box that just makes me puke"BEST FPS GAME OF THE YEAR"

im so fed up w/ this bs i hate it...ive also given up on pc gaming becuz i cant keep up and afford w/ all these upgrades necessary to run the latest games. i think there are better things to waste money on that some ram.

And speaking of improving consoles, dont you people think that enof ram or enof ghz is just enof? Shudnt some new innovative entertainment come along and put this stupid tech spec crap in the dark and have everyone play something that is unlike anything we ever played? I hate it how noone tries anything new with the VR. Virtualy Reality is on the level of Super Nintendo. Its pure crap. Why the hell havent gaming developed on somethign we can interact w/ such as minority report or something fun but instead we are given a controller in our hands and a couple buttons w/ a plastic console with a CD that says another great shooter. Sounds like gaming these days is all shoot and repeat type of generation. I hate the 2000s. Its time somebody takes up the future of gaming, not the same boring way, but an innovative way. Im glad NR went w/ somethign new, they can see what im talking about. They went w/ the 3dspace controller. Thats fresh meat on the market. Tho it isnt realy something to ***** urself about, but still its a start. I hope w/ the NR, the gaming industry realy starts looking diff ways to entertain, cuz their not entertaining but killing gaming. I mean for christ sakes how many WW2 games are out there and they just keep on making em n they dont kno when to stop and ask..isnt this old already? Nope,,,becuz its easy money and we loosers buy it up.

» GTA didn't copy anything.

I will agree with you for the most part...but some gems do come out every now and then.

Take gta for example...I don't recal ANY game that they copied...sure Saint's row is "copying" it...but i'm sure what little it improves...GTA will smack it away.

You just have to be intelligent and do research when picking out games...and just try and choose what apeal to you.

Have you heard of SPORE? it is a game of evolution where you start out as a single cell and soon become a multi-cell organism and later on start a civilization and can go to other planets and evolve more.

I am willing to bet SPORE were intrigued by ideas of other games...but SPORE is like no other game in my knowledge.

So yes, you are right that the gaming market is becoming like Holly wood...but...even in hollywood there is a GEM that appears once in a while...you just have to find the needle in the haystack.

by liquidfire0012 - 2006-03-05 05:42
» i think you misunderstood it

The point is games are copying games...Saints Row is a mexican version of GTA...how lame is that

sure they can make a game better and all but eventualy all these "cool features" will look dull and overrated n simply overplayed.

by liquidfire0012 - 2006-03-05 05:45
» Vecha also

Yea your right of course, but your also missing the point of the story. These gems are hard to find and once in a while they come out. But dosnt that mean something to you in the fact that, maybe it realy shud switch gears, instead of waiting for a killer app while others are pure crap maybe gaming is so damn slow that we have to wait so long for a nice title that maybe gaming shud evolve. Revolutionize the gaming world.

Im talkin total gaming revulution. Kinda like what NR is doin, but obviosly to a higher level. Thats the innovation right there.

» Saints Row is a mexican version of GTA

Mexican version? Umm I don't recall that is what Saint's row is...from what I read.

But anyway...

Yea...it would be nice for more gems to come out and a revolutionized( I don't know if NR is doing this....I need more info on that and they haven't been to open about the NR)

But...patience is a virtue...and sometims i think it is worth it to wait so long for a great game.
