South Park is now in it's 16th season and in it's sixteen year run, they've had a movie and several video games. The first one being back in 1998 and it was a first-person game with the humour and madness of the series. It was followed up with two spin off games, including a trivia game which was alright and a kart racing title which was a bit mixed. But finally in the seventh generation of consoles, we got an awesome tower defense title and two games on their way in 2012.

The first is being developed by South Park Digital Studios and Other Ocean Interactive and looks like it's gonna be one hell of a game. I talked to Sara Guinness, Sr. Producer for Other Ocean Interactive who is working on the game Tenorman's Revenge. We talked about the game, the series and what Scott Tenorman's been up to since his debut in Scott Tenorman must die.
QJ: Were you guys fans of the series before starting to work on the game? What are your favourite eps?
SG: Absolutely! Any team members that weren’t deeply familiar with the show became familiar quickly, and we all knew what a liberating experience this would be. Case in point: the game’s code name was Ginger Pubes! Some of the team’s favorites include: Make Love, Not Warcraft (an obvious, but unavoidable choice for any game developer!), Fatt Butt and Pancake Head, Good Times with Weapons, South Park is Gay, the Imaginationland series and of course Scott Tenorman Must Die. So many of the episodes inspired us as the game was developed, and we did realize early on that favorite episodes can’t necessarily just be tossed into a game and be expected to work. So we ending up selecting episodes carefully with an emphasis on what works for the story, the fans, and most importantly – the players. As a Canadian development company, and with this game’s dev teams located in our Canadian studios, we’re not too proud to admit we love It’s Christmas in Canada too!
QJ: Who is writing the game? What is key to the comedy of the game?

SG: The game’s main story arc of having Cartman’s Xbox hard drive stolen, as told by the Elder Otter to the Otterlings, came straight from South Park Digital Studios. Using Scott Tenorman as the main nemesis with his Ginger robot army, plus all of the in-game cutscene dialog was a culmination of efforts of both Other Ocean and South Park Digital Studios. After working closely with South Park on finalizing the episodes used to derive level themes, we created the first draft of the script and plotlines based on the game itself. The guys at South Park were then able to refine it and ensure the comedic genius from the show was fully represented. We ended up with a story and dialog that oozes the characters and feel of the show, while guiding them through a platform adventure. These are four boys who love games, and living inside of one is so appropriate for them and leads to great comedic moments.
