For fans of the side-scrolling beat em up genre, a possible solution to your homebrew itch just might be the newly released PainTown 3.6. With its classic style gameplay, and an insane amount of unique character matches, there is no way a title like this should be missed.

With its long history on the scene, PainTown is certainly a homebrew title that has garnered its share of respect. After all, between the classic SNES-style gameplay and advanced features like internet multiplayer, there are few things not to love about PainTown. In a sense its as if the developer has found us the perfect blend of the tried and true with the brand new allowing us to experience an age old genre in a slightly new way. Oh and did I mention the ridiculous character selection? Did you ever think you would see Blanka and the Ninja Turtles fighting side by side? I certainly did not!
In terms of features that are totally new to version 3.6, the game should be looking a lot prettier due to the addition of XBR and HQX scaling algorithms that will make things look nice and crisp on your TV screen. You will also be able to use archive format files as well to save up on that very precious hard drive real estate. Do you long for the simplicity of punch-kick mechanics? Then you should take a trip to PainTown!
