Mathieulh cracks PS3 Firmware 3.73

I'm not particularly into the hacking scene in anyway, but this did catch my eye as a few of my Twitter followers and friends knew I was a PS3 gamer. It turns out that Mathieulh, a PS3 hacker, has gone out of his way to hack the firmware to decrypt and boot the LV0 at firmware 3.73, this would of course mean anyone running CFW would run the latest firmware.

However after the crack he did state that he would not be posting any keys or dumps or saying how it was done, but said that he hopes others will follow in his footsteps. I have no real clue what this all means except I know a few people who do homebrewing on this site and a few friends and felt that it was mildly relevent to their interests. I will be doing a bit of extra research during the day and will update as I find anything extra about this story.

There are actually a few people that have discredited Math's claims saying that he's just an atttention seeker and that this decryption is simple Bulls and Sterns, in regards to the actual possibility of it working. Math is either Bulls and Sterning everyone or he's playing it safe and making sure Sony isn't too hasty in releasing another firmware to burn his work to the ground. We at QJ.net continue to remain neutral on the subject and cannot wait to watch this all unfold, a bit like Switzerland.

it's not even news..it's bullshit. he's been outed by several reputable names that he's the kinda guy who leeches off others, then claims to have done it himself. check twitter of Fail0verflow, and others. they all call him out on his bullshit. Not to mention what he did could easily be done via command prompt. and he also cls'd before all that. He got pissed about his 'leak' (which if you check his twitter, he said 'he released'), He left a rather lengthy note about how he was 'leaving the scene' (yet -again-)http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/ss144/GregoryRasputin /math.png (check his twitter for that post). And there's even a photo of him saying wayyy back when of him saying 'people need to share information or not speak up at all. He's a hypocrite, and a bullshitter. Please don't post things like this, all it does is lie to people, troll them, and give them false hope. As for math, well, he's just the same as sony. He's controlling the flow of information. (if he really did do this, which, with all the damning evidence, i doubt.) =/

as long as this guy aint tryina full out cfw or something, look how that turned out, cfw nor any hack can affect ps3 the way it did psp, and in this day and age you'll want online on you ps3 and can't cuz of the user agreement, and the second you do. its a rap lol. and lets hope therre is no exploiting the web browser on it or anything to get it removed cuz if so i call war on hackers cuz they did way to much damage already, and actin like they are defending the ppl.. was a month with no psn defending us? no. makin sony take away Other OS? no. and even worse they say they were fighting for justice but they were the reason sony did what they did cuz they were ruining tthe console with there hacks.

Ruining the console? How?
Look at the PSP's homebrew apps, did they ruin the PSP?

Also the one's who took PSN down were a different type of hacking group, not the one's who get modify/hack firmwares.

I like what the hackers have done for the ps3. Mine sat for over a year, then all the jailbreaking and lots of homebrew and emulators came out and I started playing with it again. It is like having a whole new console again it is great. Keep plugging away guys you are doing great. I don't need $ony telling me what I can and cannot do with my ps3. If $ony what's to buy me a console then they can tell me what not to do with it. Just another corporation controlling what we do.

actually Sony has never once told you we run you you cant do what you want. they say if you wanna go on playstation network you have to follow there user agreement otherwise being offline you can do whatever. and the reason there was a issue because ppl are not just using it for themselfs but giving it to the world. this is the reason psp is where it is, no devs support nor anything because ppl exploit it and you expect sony not to stop it when they know then stop it this time? shut up and go to bed, you don't desevre to play playstation nor games in general. hackers ruined so much for ps3 players f outta here

If you don't know much about the hacking scene, then don't blindly post about what the haters have to say.

Math is the real deal, and he has shown this on several occasions. Reason he doesn't release any of his work anymore is so he doesn't get sued up the ass by Sony, and seeing what has occurred with the last set of hacks for the PS3 I don't blame him.

Personally at this point I wish the PS3 wasn't hacked. I originally wanted some cool homebrew like we saw on the PSP, because the PS3 was missing a lot of cool functionality that Sony wasn't delivering on such as better theme-ing (no more XMB), access to the GPU and full CPU in Linux mode, in-game music (which is possible, the lack of RAM thing Sony said is bull), and cross-game chat to name a few things. Unfortunately all the hacks have been used for is piracy, and out of it we lost Linux support through Other OS, and that was back when most people didn't care much about hacking the PS3. By removing it, Sony accelerated the hacking process for pirates because it brought the homebrewers on-board who were content with Linux.

This is already leading to new CFW/MFW from people like Waninkoko, but I'm choosing not to go that route because as I've stated the true homebrew scene on the PS3 has been scarce. That and I rather not be banned by Sony because I do play online on the PS3 unlike my PSP. I wish Sony themselves would re-establish Other OS, but it's been uncovered that they used the hacking scene as an excuse to get rid of it to lower their costs, which I hope they lose the class action lawsuit for. Would be great if they were forced to bring it back, but I doubt that will happen...

my ps3 sat for over a year till the jailbreaking started then i started using it again. it is like have a completely different console. i like what the hackers have done and hope they keep up the good work. $ony is just another giant corporation telling us what we can and cant do with our consoles. when they start buying them for us then they can tell us what to do with it. thanks to the hackers we can now use it the way we want. i get tired of hearing people whine all the time about how the hackers are ruining it. they are making the consoles ours and allowing us to do what we want with it. great job guys and keep up the good work

@ Freddy fild theres 2 types a pirate and one that hacks for the enjoyment of using a system to its full capacity.and the price of gaming is coporate greed!
So call activision and ask them if they are ever going to give their fans any "NEW" map packs for free seeing as they made over a billion $ on COD franchise(of course they'll just hang-up in your face)
