In Beenox's first Spider-Man game, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, the problem was with fractured dimensions. For the studio's second, Spider-Man is faced with correcting a timeline that has gone awry. Check out the E3 2011 trailer for Beenox and Activision's Spider-Man: Edge of Time below.
The Peter David-penned story of Spider-Man: Edge of Time is set in two connected and evolving timelines, from the contemporary times of the Amazing Spider-Man to the corrupted future world of Spider-Man 2099. The game features "cause-and-effect" gameplay, where players will see how the immediate and sometimes unexpected effects of their actions as one Spider-Man changes the timeline of the other Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: Edge of Time is slated for release this fall. It'll be available on pretty much every current generation gaming device barring the PSP. The game is part of Activision's E3 2011 lineup.

And well the other dimensions have no bearing on alternate realities/parallel universes, which is really what the previous game was all about.
Shattered Dimensions just sounds cooler.
