With tongue firmly in cheek, developers Ronimo Games revealed the first Awesomenaut - Froggy G - back in June. This time around, we get to see Yuri the Space Monkey, who has just returned from being blasted into space and time by Russia. Understandably crazed, Yuri turned his spacecraft into an "equally mad, time-travelling supercomputer jetpack." That's a mouthful.

Anyhoo, Awesomenauts is shaping up to be a lot of fun. As you can see from the gameplay videos out there, it's side-scrolling chaos full of platforming and battle arenas. It's going to have multiplayer functionality and looks like it will call to those of us that sank way too many hours into Battle Toads back in the day. The retro movement is alive and well, at least in the arena of downloadable games, and with the glut of great retail games we've had this season draining our wallets it will be nice to save a little dough and buy some cool downloadable games. Sure, you could just not buy any games, but where's the fun in that? Look for Awesomenauts in February 2012.
