The Last Remnant PS3 shows up again in Famitsu listing

Square Enix's promised PlayStation 3 version of The Last Remnant has never been formally cancelled, but for all intents and purposes the company has seemingly done its best to sweep it under the rug.

Released on Xbox 360 back in 2008, the Unreal Engine-powered role playing game got a negative critical reception due to framerate problems and instances of texture pop-in. The PC version, which came out about four months after the Xbox 360 version, was better received. Concerns about profitability have all but spelled doom for the PS3 version.

It looks like all the sweeping hasn't managed to hide it entirely, however. Gaming news blog Andriasang reports that a new listing for The Last Remnant has shown up in a list of upcoming "Famitsu Choice" articles. Its the sixth from the top in the right-hand table on the image below, right under Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy XIV.

The listing has The Last Remnant's release date as TBA. Square Enix didn't say anything about it during this year's Tokyo Game Show, so it could just be a gaffe on the part of the magazine. I'm inclined to think it's the latter. Square Enix would be hard pressed to market a game that didn't quite make it to the top of everyone's must-have lists a few years ago, unless they manage to actually fix all the problems that gamers had with the original.
