Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City still scary, says Capcom |

Capcom may have steadily moved the Resident Evil franchise to a more action-oriented direction, but that doesn't mean they're forgetting the series' roots in horror. Case in point: the company has assured gamers that scares will still play a part in the upcoming Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.
Speaking with OPM France, Capcom producer Masachika Kawata said that although Operation Raccoon City is a squad-based shooter, "there are still tons of horror elements." He also revealed that Operation Raccoon City isn't necessarily canon, but it's totally immersed in the Resident Evil mythology.
Capcom has handed development duties for the spin-off to SOCOM: Confrontation developer Slant Six. Apparently this decision came about during development of Lost Planet 2.
"The idea came up when we were working on Lost Planet 2," recalled Kawata. "We didn't have any other teams internally to work on it. Western studios are known for their ease of development, and in terms of gameplay, this genre. We just bought a studio in Vancouver (Blue Castle) and when we were looking for external partners ... Blue Castle talked with Slant Six, and they were well known for their online games and their coding skills. We met them and they were big RE fans. A good starting point!"
Kawata also hinted at another project more firmly rooted in the survival horror genre. "In terms of sales, survival horror isn't as popular as it once was," he said. "Having said that, I love Dead Space. Besides this game, I am working on a survival horror game. We aren't making this game to run away from survival horror, but to bring new challenges to the world of Resident Evil. I wouldn't say it's a natural evolution as much as I always wanted to do something a little different."

Zombies are meant to be scary not some slow moving terrorists, i could just spike the Afghan water supply with Rohipnol if i wanted that.

We saw how that turned out. RE4 had very little scary parts, RE5 had none at all.

this old title was very cool once you got into the survival.

I think thats mostly because we don't see it these days. Every time we get an horror game.. the developers have took us completely away from the whole Survival genre or w/e. L4D is good and still popular, as is Silent Hill.. I think it's just an excuse for the shit RE4 and 5 gave us.
I want a RE2 and 3 remake at some point with free roam of Raccoon City and co-op where we're not always together.
