RAGE on PS3 uses every Cell |

It's good to see the PS3 used it for every bit of it's gaming being. I haven't heard of many games that use the full Blu-Ray size or actually push the processing limitations for Sony's big black gaming machine.
Creative Director Tim Willits said during Gamescom that all three ports of the gaming have been coming along amazingly. Willits was interviewed by Just Push Start he stated that “Carmack and the guys looked at the capabilities of all three formats...They’re all similar under the hood in that they’re all multi-core, which is required if you want to achieve 60fps". The higher frame rate really gives a smoother look to most games and is fantastic with fast-paced gameplay that doesn't use motion blur to help out with the processing power or give a fellow gamer motion sickness.
Willits continued with talking about the idTech 5 Engine, " When you build an engine from the ground up, it makes the process of achieving these milestone [The FPS] much easier than using an old system and trying to fit it around old tech and old methods" It's a fairly interesting way that I'm glad to see ID to take time with their games and their technology, especially when planning for multiple ports.
"On the PS3 version, every CPU that isn't being used, is doing something in the background, so Rage uses every core under the console's hood", Willits also claimed that the multi-core processors would reduce the amount of pop-in during the game, "The extra cores are assigned to work on textures in the background, as there's tons of visual data on the Blu-Ray and on the Hard Drive", I wonder what the installation for Rage will be like. "We load compressed JPG data and assign those extra cores to work on these textures and uncompress them in the background so there's no nasty pop up or blurred textures"
If all this turns out to be true, Rage is gonna look and hopefully play amazingly when it comes out in October
