Sony is definitely ramping up their downloadable game offerings on the PlayStation Network. It has come to light that Pub Fund titles as well as "rare classic games" will be making their way to the online service starting this month.
Beginning October 4, the PlayStation Network will be updated with new exclusive games every Tuesday as part of Sony's new "Only On PSN" initiative. Eufloria and Rochard will be the first games released, followed by Sideway: New York on October 11th, Sodium Collection on October 13th, Okabu and RocketBirds on October 18th, and inFamous: Festival of Blood and PixelJunk Sidescroller on October 25th.
Also on October 4th, gamers will find God Hand, GrimGrimoire, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, Odin Sphere and Ring of Red on the PlayStation Store. The PS2 games are being released in their original form, so no graphical upgrades, triphy support, and the like.
Additionally, PS Plus subscribers will get a 20 percent discount during the launch week of every Only On PSN game. There's also a rebate offer where users who spend US$ 60 or more out of their PSN wallet this month will get US$ 10 back in November. This covers anything available on the Store.
Do note that the Only On PSN program as described above is currently available for gamers in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil only. SCEE has confirmed, though, that "the majority of the content", including the classic PS2 games, will be released eventually in the territories it covers.

I understand that redoing the textures may be somewhat challenging, but it's not like including trophy support would have been all that difficult and would have engaged a different core group of gamers, virtually guaranteeing higher sales. I guess this is the PSN equivalent of shovel-ware.

i can't speak for all gamers (but apparently you can), but if the price is right, for most people who haven't played these games, this would be good chance to buy them..just saying
