Ninja Theory: Enslaved should have done better

The critical response to Ninja Theory's last released game, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, was largely positive but to say that the post-apocalyptic action-adventure title had a hard time reaching Namco Bandai's projected sales numbers would be an understatement.

Speaking to Edge magazine, studio boss Tameem Antoniades lamented that that should not have been the case. If things had gone well, they should be well into developing a sequel by now.

"Enslaved should have done better," he said. "Right now we should have been doing a sequel and perfecting that sequel and doing what franchises do, which is get better over time. [But] because that didn't happen we've not expanded to two teams like we intended to. So we've remained a smaller shop."

Antoniades, however, also pointed out that even though Enslaved didn't perform as well as they would have wanted they now have a chance to do better with DmC: Devil May Cry.

Ninja Theory was tapped by Capcom to develop a reboot of the stylish action franchise. Despite negative early feedback on their character design choices, both companies have affirmed that the reboot will be a welcome addition to fans' collections. The game does have the advantage of a recognized brand, though, so chances are it'll sell, at the very least, slightly more and at a faster pace than Enslaved.

No use crying over spilled milk. Even if it didn't do all too well, at least it seemed to have convinced Capcom to give Ninja Theory a crack at an established franchise.

The characters and their growth towards eachother are what really interested me in the story. And it was a fun game to play as well, though it had some minor faults it was nothing I couldn't easily look pass. Wish there was a sequel!

I'm sorry, but a sequel to a story that was a retread of Journey to the West wouldn't have made a whole lot of sense.

I enjoyed Enslaved, however, I enjoyed Heavenly Sword more and both were TERRIBLY short, had no replayability and lacked any kind of mode outside of the story which makes it hard for gamers to drop $60 on when they're only going to play it for ~4 hours.

It's my belief that this new DMC title too will underperform and we may see the end of Ninja Theory.

Capcom and NT can talk all they want and keep their spirits up saying stuff like "oh, fans will love it" - but the general feel of the community is one of anger and betrayal as they feel the two have completely destroyed what the franchise was in favor of something new and flashy. Only the final product will tell... but, I think it'll be an uphill battle for the 2 companies.

ninja theory should just shut up, my god, they make cheap sequels and what do they want the devs of the incredible game of enslaved to the same....

enslaved is one of the rare games that you can tell it was made out of passion, with its beautiful art style, unique gameplay and characterisatio ns....

yeah the devs would rush and make a sequel and ruin that.... no ninja theory, before saying someone should make sequels should look at themselves, man the ninja gaiden had terrible sequels, to me it was more like a mod... the combat system hasnt really evolve, just added upon, the good story line of ninja gaiden slowly fades away for cutting action and having barely any characterisatio n.

i mean seriously when has ninja theory has become a dev worth listening to, i'd screw them and listen to the devs of enslaved

You are confused...Ninja Theory is not the team that makes Ninja Gaiden. Not even close! That is Team Ninja...

So your rant is useless. Ninja Theory makes wicked games that are art, but they lack in the know-how to make a replayable game. See if Sony were smart, they would've asked Ninja Theory to add some DLC to Heavenly Sword to allow a different perspective to the game. This could be a full story mode with Pan, or a prequel as Nariko's father when he was young and forced to protect the sword. Instead they cut ties and allowed them to go to third party status and now they are hanging on by a thread. It's a shame.

Almost finished it but I had to send my xbox back home before I got a chance to. :(

I'll be starting over from the beginning anyways, can't get any achievements over here. (IRAQ SUCKS)

I had no idea it didn't do so well, but I think that it SHOULD have done well. Aside from a few glitches (which all games have anyway) I found it to be a great game with a cool story.

It was a mediocre game with a somewhat pleasant story. The simplistic gameplay fits the PS2 era so if you ask me it did alright for itself in this day and age.

i'll admit enslaved was good but i finished it in about the time to took me to eat a pot noodle.

but seriously fuck ninja theory for wrecking devil may cry. Wtf were they thinking handing the franchise to that guy. for one thing the new devil may fag smoking dante looks like the lead developer.....vanity thy name is asshole *coughs tameem* for another he's now half demon/half angel .....wtf how does that work?......he's prolly put it so that a angel raped a devil and made her cry he actually had the nerve to say the old dante wasn't cool....WTF does he know....he prolly thinks hitler was cool, wht a retard. and why does dantgay now smoke wtf...... this game is gonna trully suck ballzzzzzz just like dragon ball evolution. you guys know what this means tho....this gayboot means no possibility of a nero game or sparda game....which is bullshit.....

the new dante looks like an anorexic, tameem who has'nt had a shower in 6 years, who eats out of bins and constantly looks on the ground for cig butts.

fuck ninja theory.......i know guys on crack that make more sense than him.....skinless chicken eating mother fucker.....

man that was a rant and a half

and i meant every word

bring back the real developers....

kill tameem.....financially by not buying his vain self absorbed reboot called devil may gay.

i mean cmon it took one guy to start a facebook page to destroy simon cowells stranglehold on the cristmass number one.... i'm sure if we do the same thing....and not buy the game, they'll at least have to listen to us, or even state the game as not being canon, and make a real dmc game again
