IO explains why Agent 47 can see through walls in Hitman: Absolution |
Listed in: Games Tags: hitman: absolution, IO Interactive

The Hitman series has always been about finding the best and most quiet way to eliminate a target. This involves a lot of sneaking around and trying to navigate the sometimes labyrinthine paths that guards and enemies can take in a given area. In Hitman: Absolution, IO Interactive is making it easier by giving players the ability to see through walls.
The ability, called instinct, lets players see the paths and positions of guards through walls when activated. Aside from that, it also boosts Agent 47's disguise abilities. Where in past games alerting a guard to your presence while disguised would invariably end up in him shooting at you, you can now try to bluff your way through such situations.
Speaking with Gamereactor, Hitman: Absolution gameplay director Christian Elverdam explained that IO put in this feature to let users know the consequences of their actions. This will give players a chance to make an informed decision instead of relying on trial and error and having to reload if anything goes wrong. The instinct feature, though, is dependent on the game's difficulty setting. Gamers who don't want to use it can choose to play at higher difficulties.
The devs have promised both a familiar and yet significantly different experience from past Hitman games, so I guess this counts as one of the things that make up the latter. Hitman Absolution is curently slated for release sometime next year.

Its like taking the puzzle out of a puzzle game.

'Gamers who don't want to use (Instinct) it can choose to play at higher difficulties"
I understand the article does not specifically state it but a rational individual can see that this is what the statement is implying.

K3b4b5t4r is right in every way. Why would you want to add a feature that you can disable by making game harder ? It's like in NFS you have no Nitro, but instead, everyone of the computer controlled opponents drive with deadly precession. Does this even make any sense ? You play on HARD. So not only you get no 'intuition', but guards are more jumpy and their aim is much improved. While you play on PUSSY difficulty, you have guards with paper armors and most of them don't know which end of the firearm bullets come out + the nifty little 'intuition' feature.
It might not be as bad as we picture it right now, we'll have to wait and see.

And RD understood perfectly. Nice to see someone who knows what im talking about.

I for one see it as a great way to bring new people into the series without the aforementioned "trial and error."
Now while I don't agree with making games easier per say, however; trial and error type experiences can be quite frustrating, and boring after the third or fourth time. Prince of Persia solved that sort of issue with the ability to rewind, but that doesn't really make sense in Hitman.
