Final Fantasy Versus XIII development in full swing

Disappointment has pretty much hounded those who keep looking forward to seeing Final Fantasy XIII-2 at the next big gaming event. It wasn't at this year's E3. It won't be at the Tokyo Game Show, either.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 was announced relatively recently, but even considering that it's just basically adding on what the XIII team already built at least it's already set for a late 2011 / early 2012 launch. Versus XIII? It's still the only Fabula Nova Crystallis game without even a working release window.

All that might soon change, though. With work on both XIII-2 and the handheld title, Final Fantasy Type-0 nearing completion, Square Enix is finally in a position to devolte all their JRPG-making resources to Versus XIII. Speaking during a Q&A session over the weekend, Yoshinori Kitase assured games that they are now "giving 100% to development" for Versus XIII and Type-0, the latter of which is already coming out in Japan next month.

It's definitely good to hear, but Square Enix certainly has a lot to live up to after all the anticipation built by the constant non-reveals. Maybe by E3 2012 we'll finally get to see Versus XIII in action -- but that's only if the dev team doesn't get pulled to work on other games in the interim. Hopefully that doesn't happen.

And then the devs are once again pulled off Versus XIII so they can work on Kingdom Hearts.

Really now? I thought u were suppose to be professional. and part of why kingdom hearts 3 isnt started yet is because the team is working on this already, u should be more educated on this and they wont start kh3 till the 3ds one releases they already said and that give about a whole year atleast and vs 13 has all the main work complete like character models.

Yeah, I stopped holding my breath waiting for that game -.-
Maybe it'll come out in a shorter timeframe than Duke Nukem xD
Also error in the first paragraph of the article, should be Versus XIII not XIII-2

Yeah I'm kinda sad at Square-Enix lately. Final Fantasy XIII-2 BEFORE Versus XIII!?!?! WHY!!!! XIII was good, but not good enough for a sequel. Besides, they should know their sequels/prequels NEVER work out. I think Crisis Core was their only successful add-on game. Even then it wasn't really needed. At least they pulled a smart move and introduced new characters and gave them depth unlike FF7 and it's lifeless, emo characters. XIII-2, from the previews, just seems like a hash of XIII and is probably going to kill the story. Gah just give us more Versus XIII previews! I want to see more of this original style Final Fantasy they're bringing back in it.

6 YEARS?! OMG! I hope they don't pull off like Duke Nukem Forever which took 12 (i think) years to make and resulted in one shit game.

I just hope they don't go for a multi platform release. I know I'm going to get a thumbs down for this but I don't care, I don't want to wait an extra year or have features compromised for the sake of square enix trying to maximise profits, we all know what happened with XIII...

Actually that's exactly what I think is gonna happen. Don't be surprised if they pull another XIII with Versus.

Square Enix is fooling all of you. There is a reason why FF XIII Versus will take 8 years to develop. and that reason is:

FF XIII Versus is just a code name for a game that doesn't exist. The game Square Enix has been developing all these years is actually a remake of FF VII. In 2 years time you will get you ultimate FF VII in HD.
And now that I told you about it Square Enix is so gonna fire me :P

I get that you are trying to make a joke, but seriously a remake does not take 8 years to develop. The characters, monsters, plot, and level designs are ALREADY there for a remake. This is why Squire Enix loves to make profitable remakes so often. Even as an HD remake they would only have to redo the art and the graphics engine. Designing can take years.
