Early Dark Souls players get not-so-warm welcome |

When the folks behind Dark Souls said they want the game's players to die (in-game, of course), they definitely weren't kidding around. Some retail stores in Japan have apparently broken the game's official street date, and instead of whipping out the banhammer the devs have decided to deal with the early players in a decidedly Dark Souls way.
Reports from Japanese blog Esuteru say that those who played the game before tomorrow's official Japanese launch were met by ridiculously powerful Black Phantoms. In case you haven't played Dark Souls' spiritual successor, Demon's Souls, Black Phantoms are other players who can invade your game and kill you so they can revive their physical bodies.
The Black Phantoms that greeted early players were reportedly at high level (the screenshot above shows one at level 145) with all of their skills maxed out at 99. These are definitely not opponents you'd want to meet if you're just starting out. The same not-so-warm welcome will reportedly greet those who break Dark Souls' North American and European street dates, too. The game comes out in those territories on October 4th and 7th, respectively.
Now that's a clever way of dealing with people who just can't wait to play the game. It's way better than a ban and much more frustating too. If you really want to play early, better do so offline.

From Software is very smart to kill players for playing early. I would take it a step further and make "fake copies" that have maxed black phantoms on and offline for getting it early
