Electronic Arts has announced that a downloadable demo for Need For Speed: The Run, Black Box's upcoming entry in the long running racing franchise, will be released on October 18th on the US PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace. It will go live on the EU PS Store on October 19th. The demo will be available for download until November 1st.

The demo will feature a pair of levels, namely Desert Hills, California, and Independence Pass, Colorado. The Autolog feature will be implemented so you can keep track of your and others' best times.

Players will get to race through the aforementioned levels in one of two supercars: the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni and the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S. The Porsche, however, will only be unlocked if you "refer a friend to download the demo." The announcement wasn't quite so clear on this point, although the demo itself will probably include some kind of messaging feature so you can tell others to download it.

Need For Speed: The Run comes out on November 15th in North America and November 17th in Europe.

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed the NFS series except for Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2. Has the series gone downhill or is it just me?

It has its ups and downs. Some titles suck more than others.

The last NFS before this wasn't so bad. This one just seems stupid.
